Things to Do in Charlotte North Carolina
The city of Charlotte has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century. In 1799, it was the site of the first gold rush in North America, which prompted the federal government to establish a branch of the US Mint in the city. Today, the Mint Museum is located in the city’s historic Mint building. At one time, Charlotte was known as the “Golden City,” and many of its streets were paved with gold. The city has been the setting for movies such as Homeland and has been the site for two presidential nominating conventions.
Charlotte is also home to several great breweries and vineyards. Local craft breweries include Blue Baze, NoDa Brewing, Legion Brewing, and Triple C Brewing. You can also visit local wineries like Stony Mountain Vineyard. If you’re a beer drinker, visiting a brewpub is a great way to celebrate the city’s diverse culinary scene.
Rent in Charlotte is also very affordable compared to the national average. Since 40% of the Charlotte population is from out of state, the cost of living is considerably lower. Furthermore, the median home price in Charlotte is less than half the national average. This means that residents are able to enjoy larger living spaces, better commutes, and a better quality of life.
The city of Charlotte is also home to the Mecklenburg Resolves, which was the first declaration of independence against British rule. Although not a true declaration of independence, it was one of the earliest such declarations that would eventually lead to the American Revolution. Today, this event is commemorated in Charlotte on Mecklenburg Day (MecDec), as well as on the state flag and seal.
