Charlotte, North Carolina – A Great Place to Live
The area around Charlotte, North Carolina, was first settled by European colonists around 1755. In 1758, Thomas Spratt, a great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, built a house near the intersection of two Native American trading paths: one that ran north-south along the Great Wagon Road, and the other that ran east-west along Trade Street. In 1760, the federal government set up a branch of the US Mint in Charlotte, and now the Mint Museum is located in an historic building. The city was the site of several gold mines, and its streets were once said to be paved with gold. Charlotte has also been the site of two presidential nominating conventions.
Charlotte is also known for its wine and beer culture. Hundreds of breweries and vineyards are located in the area, giving you plenty of options to try new wines and brews. If you like your beer with a side of exercise, Charlotte is a great place to visit. The Charlotte area is easy to get around, thanks to good public transportation.
Charlotte’s job market is booming. Many Fortune 500 companies have headquarters in Charlotte. Bank of America, Duke Energy, and Wells Fargo are among the largest employers in the region. Despite the city’s rapid growth, the city’s median home value is lower than the national average. In Charlotte, a house can sell for as little as $500,000, and in some cases, even more. As an added bonus, the city has some of the best schools in North Carolina. Whether it’s public or private, students have excellent opportunities to pursue education.
