Dom Capers Talks About His ‘Full Circle’ Moment

Dom Capers was the Carolina Panthers first head coach, starting his career with the expansion team in 1995. Twenty-eight years later, Dom has made his way back as the Panthers senior defensive assistant. Dom had a chance to meet with Kristen Balboni and talk all about what it’s like coming back to Carolina.

Dom Capers welcome back to Carolina the Panthers first ever head coach and now You return as senior defensive assistant With Frank reichstaff first of all what Is it like to be back well What a Feeling walking in the stadium this Morning yeah it's actually the first Time I've been in the offices since 1998 But I can remember vividly when we Opened up the stadium in 96 Coming in of course it was state of the Art We'd played at Clemson the year before So everybody was excited to have our own Facility and it just brings back so many Fond memories tell me some of those Memories when you look back over here What what really stands out well I can remember the very first year was Kind of a magical year for us because we Won every home game And we did defeated the defending Super Bowl champ Cowboys in the playoffs to go To Green Bay the next week in the NFC Championship game I remember that as a As a fan that 1996 season it just what a Run well I can tell you this that I can Remember after the Cowboys game I went In the locker room and I was waiting for The team to come in and nobody was Showing up so I walked back outside and The team was running around the bowl the Stadium high-fiving the fans wow nobody Left the fans all stayed and like I say

It was one of those very special moments You know they told me if you stay in a Business long enough you go full circle Right of course Frank Reich was our First quarterback and now coming back And seeing Frank okay in the head Coach's office and I'm down the hall a Little bit trying to help him in any way That I can what was it like coaching him Well you want me to find a person than Frank right I mean you talk about a High Character guy very bright very organized So he was certainly a pleasure to coach And I think he's carried that over into The coaching business did a great job in Indianapolis and I know he'll do a great Job here someone you also have Half Giro Avero much more recent history Um what is he like tell us about him Well Gerald's a unique guy I mean he first of All he's very intelligent he's very even Keel he has a great ability to Communicate you know I think the players Are going to love playing for him has a Very good Mastery of his scheme and I've Been able to observe Gerald when he was My quality control guy at Green Bay and Last year working with him at Denver and You know he just did a great job Tom as We wrap this up I just want to know You've given me some insight into some Great memories what are you most looking Forward to as it pertains to this season

Well I'm looking forward to creating Some more very good memories and you Know I'm excited about the staff I'm Excited about being with Frank being Back with the gro again and I know that We'll have a good group of guys to work With and look forward to meeting all the Players well we're very much looking Forward to it as well thank you so much For the time well thank you
