With a burgeoning craft beer scene and a wealth of restaurants serving everything from down-home fish and chips to cuisine from around the globe, Charlotte has something for everyone. The city’s many breweries include patios with skyline views and plenty of space for relaxing, while the casual, family-friendly restaurants like Amelie’s French Bakery & Café offer brunch and a laid-back atmosphere.
When it comes to the city’s sports scene, Charlotte is big on both professional and amateur athletics. Catch a game of the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets, NFL’s Panthers, or MLS’s Carolina Railhawks at one of the area’s stadiums. You can also cheer on the minor league Charlotte Checkers, the Charlotte Independence, or the Charlotte Knights.
While the winters can be cold, and summers hot and muggy, overall the climate in Charlotte is very comfortable and the seasons transition seamlessly. Residents enjoy a long, warm summer season with average temperatures in the upper 70s and sunny skies.
The wetter time of year in Charlotte lasts for 3.5 months, from May 14 to August 31. On average, it rains or snows 41% of the time during this period.
Getting around in Charlotte can be challenging if you don’t have your own vehicle. The CATS bus system has more than 70 stops throughout the city, but you can only hop on if you have exact change—which can be difficult in a city full of busy drivers. In addition, the lack of sidewalks and limited public transit options means walking can be dangerous.
