Young spoke about learning from veteran Andy Dalton, studying the playbook, and his time at NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
You can start with questions that was La It was it was a great great experience Um it was great to be with the rest of My you know some of the rest of my Rookie class um you know us to go back And have a good weekend obviously with The NFL PA I got a lot of wisdom out of It but I'm definitely definitely happy To be back what did you learn from your Conversation with Brady specifically Yeah there's a lot a lot of gyms a lot Of nuggets that I was able to take away Um I was able to ask some questions About his career kind of his mindset Going towards it and you know for me Obviously being a being a Young Quarterback you know want to know things That you know He wish he knew at this age and you know Things that he felt like were were key For him to have success you know I think That's something that is pretty Invaluable so I'm Gonna Keep it to Um you know I'm Gonna Keep it to who was In that room but um I definitely took Away a lot of being able to talk to one Of the greatest to ever do it is a huge Honor and privilege I was I was very Grateful for that looking away in the Group photo did you see the group photo Was I Dang it's man Man I did not know that but now I know It was like one picture they took and
I'm like I don't know if I was looking For that one so I just hope they don't Use that of course that's the one they Went with Was it like being in the uniform you and Jonathan actually just seeing yourself Actually in it yeah I mean it was Surreal um like you said first time Being in in that uniform seeing our Names and numbers on it is crazy it's Definitely a dream come true Um so it was a crazy experience but you Know it was great it was humbling but You know again it doesn't entitle us to Say anything it doesn't entitle mean Anything it was cool to be there and you Know being in the Jersey is definitely a An honor but um you know that's not Really where I you know that's not where I want to end I want to do everything I Can to help the team so getting back Here today and starting that process was Was great Yeah it was a lot of fun um just being Able to compete let's fly around a Little bit this being the first time That you know we're against the defense And being able to go and and play fast And go at a you know at a full speed Tempo was it was great you know Obviously last week it was against the Against the coaches and walking through Stuff but being able to take the meeting Room onto the practice field you know it
Was a lot of fun so you know a lot of Competition you know a lot of you know Us getting after it so it was it was a Fun day Picking up and Most on so far and what have you kind of Told you about adjusting to the NFL yeah I mean I'm in there trying to pick Andy's brain as much as I can he's a Great you know he he's a great vet Obviously he has had a bunch of success Throughout his career someone who super Smart super intelligent you see why he's Been able to have the success he's had For such a long period of time so for me It's you know it's a great opportunity Every day to come in I'm asking him a Bunch of questions I'm watching him with Operation how he how he you know how his Feet are how his eyes are you know when He comes back you know he'll he'll talk And say why he went there why would him For me I'm trying to soak all that in um And you know really how he carries Himself how he conducts himself the Pre-snab operation and all that stuff is You know stuff he's been doing for for Years and years on the league and you it Shows you know when whenever I'm able to See it it's clearly super comfortable It's um you know he he's clear with all This stuff that he does and for me you Know I try to watch all of his movements Try to watch all that he does and then I
Ask him questions you know whenever Something pops up or I'm wondering why He did something or says something and You know he's always there to give me Answers and give me Insight so I'm super Grateful to be in a room with him Important is it for you to be working With the first team line right away uh Yeah I mean it's it's a huge huge honor Those guys again have been I mean the Guys that have had success you know Really good players and you know I'm in Learning everything and again watching Watching everyone operate and you know I Think for me to be able to have Communication with them they've helped Me out a lot they've been super great to Work with Um you know when they get you know when There's something I'm not doing right They give me feedback you know they tell Me what they expect out of me and that's What you know that's what I want that's What I need as a rookie and you know Again they've been super encouraging They've helped a lot you know we've Talked and had conversations about you Know how they view things and I'm trying To do everything I can to learn them to Learn what you know what what it is um You know that we want to do as a team And as a unit um so it's been great to Have those reps can you tell a Difference when Bradley's snapping to
You as opposed to anyone else I mean and How how important is it for you to to Have that kind of connect yeah um you Know I think for for me and for us you Know I think we we want to do everything That that we can to you know make sure That we can do all we can to help the Team to help the offense in the unit so You know for me you know everybody is is Different you know every player is Different everyone has little things but We're all trying to accomplish that same Goal um you know so for me regard you Know no matter you know who's there and All the positions you know we have a Clear plan you know we have a goal that We're accomplished and we have to Collaborate and work together to get There Um but you know I'd say for for everyone Um you know whenever we step in we all Have that one goal we want to execute as A unit um and help accomplish those team Goals so um you know I feel like we're All on that same page I know it's early But has anything jumped out that you Didn't expect at this level or something Different Um you know I think you know I don't Think it's anything too unexpected I Think I understood the challenge and you Know how much of a change you know for Me I think that um I've been putting on My all my effort and focus on you know
Trying to trying to learn things in the Playbook and and try to take you know Try to do as much to to learn the Offense and then on the practice field Go and execute that and I've been able To be around great coaches great other People in the room and throughout the Unit um so you know really I knew was You know it's going to be tough It's Hard you know I'm working every day There's still a lot more that you know I Want to get better on and get better at Improve on so um you know I don't think It's it's surprising that it's you know It's work it's it's something that That's hard but again I have a great Group of people around me that pushed me To be the best version of myself and you Know I I feel like progress is being Made and there's a lot more progress to Go How long are you in that Playbook on a Daily Um however long I need to be Um you know whatever it is so that I can Feel ready again I I'll right now I want To do everything I can to you know take Ownership of that Playbook to make sure That you know we can we can have smooth Practices and you know I've made Mistakes but you know when I make those Mistakes I want to go back and eliminate Them and work on them um so you know However however long it takes Dandy said
Today you noticed in the script one of The plays was like mislabeled and I Think you called it to somebody's Attention take us walk us through that Uh yeah you know just getting the Getting the script before practice you Know going through it in my head you Know practicing everything and there's Something that I was it was just a tag On something based on the formation that Didn't make much sense but it was just Because it was a different tag and you Know talked about it easy fix they had Actually already fixed it by the time we We got here in the morning once I talked To coach Bob but again I just I want to Be prepared you know I I want to look Through everything and go through Everything and get myself you know that That you know I know it's work I know It's hard again I'm learning so you know As much time as I can spend studying Stuff and getting the Playbook and Trying to learn whether it's call Scripts installs whatever that is um you Know that's what I'm trying to do a lot Of people Developing a chemistry of trouble for Sure yeah I mean it works extremely hard You know you see the the efficiency and You know you see how how well it works And I think the whole tight end group Um you know again it as a unit you know We want to work hard we want to execute
On you know right now obviously it Starts in these in these OT days right Now we're taking it day by day Um and you know I think again the tight End group the entire receiver Court Running backs offensive line as a unit Um you know I feel like it's you know It's great to be a part of it um you Know me learning alongside everyone and You know kind of getting more Comfortable here um it's been it's been Great um and you know the tight end Group as well has been really really Great to work with number one draft pick A lot of fans excited about you how do You manage the autograph side and Interact in with Me yeah I'm super grateful to be in the Position that I am I'm you know having You know people that support me and root For me that's not something I take Lightly Um you know I'm grateful for all the People who you know who keep up with me And and you know and and you know wish The best for me and take time out of Their day to come see me or whatever it May be and again I'm grateful for that Um you know I'm going to always make Sure that the main thing is the main Thing I'm doing everything I can to Focus on football and not take away from You know if it's a practice or if it's You know watch a film or getting ready
Your game whatever that may be um you Know football always is what's first but I am super grateful and you know again Having kind of a hierarchy of making Sure that nothing comes in in front of Football and then you know after that I Just try to do my best to show my Gratitude Or he was saying yeah I wasn't the Number one pick he was looking I guess He was looking at you Um and saying but I had to do things to To survive and to do what he's done for Did for 20 years what did you take from That that little exchange yeah um you Know where I was drafted doesn't entitle Me to anything in this league I've never Thrown a thrown an NFL pass in a game You know I haven't done anything I have You know no stats no wins nothing so um You know we're all on an even playing Field once you get to to the to the League where you get drafted you know That again that doesn't entitle me to Anything so I have to work you know I Have to try to do my best and I have to Work as hard as as I can to make sure That every day I'm trying to get better Every day I'm improving and trying to do My best to help the team because again No when a draft pick doesn't give you Any points you know it doesn't tell you Anything so there's a lot more work I Need to do and again I know regardless
Of where I got picked or anyone else you Know we're on even playing field I just Want to do it I can't help the team Is always expected to be one of the Leaders of the team but for the last Couple of years Younger veteran players who have been Building this thing up into what it is Now when you talk to Brian Burns or Jeremy Chen oremone what what tone have They said with you in terms of okay this Is this is what we're trying to Accomplish this is what we're going to Do to see if we want you to help us get To where we're trying to go yeah like You said it's been um you know it's been A there's that core of of young leaders That you like you said set the tone and Really that speaks for itself you know Me coming into it and embracing the Culture you know really that's all I had To do you know it's something that Permeates throughout the entire locker Room and you know again they they laid The foundation the groundwork to do so So for me it was it was easy you know You you know it's it's what what it is Here you know you you have to fit in and You know for me trying to do everything That I can to earn the trust and earn The respect of my teammates to you know To get into the position to hopefully um Continue to push that forward and Elevate it but you know for for right
Now where I'm at you know I want to you Know it's it's easy to follow that Culture and they've been you know they Specifically been been great to me and You know me and all the rookies to like You said live up to that standard and Take it day by day with that um so you Know I want to do everything I can to Help the team and there's already a Great culture here and you know I'm Doing everything I can and you know for Me I just want to embrace it and and you Know uh continue to push forward and you Know do better and do what I can for the Team Appreciate you guys
