Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News

Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in America. Its twinkly skyline and surplus of things to do enchant newcomers from larger hubs, but with lower-than-average living costs. The city is a financial powerhouse, home to Bank of America and many other large employers, but it also attracts professionals from the healthcare, energy and education sectors. Colleges including UNC-Charlotte, Duke University and Davidson draw graduates from all over the Carolinas, contributing to a diverse population.

The city is known for its vibrant arts scene, with multiple museums and galleries to visit throughout the area. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, for instance, showcases key pieces from a variety of important art movements and schools of thought in a thoughtfully curated exhibition space. The Mint Museum of Art is another popular spot for those interested in the history and development of American art, with exhibitions featuring everything from ancient American crafts to contemporary art.

Sports are a big part of the local culture in Charlotte, with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers and NBA’s Charlotte Hornets both based here. In addition, the city has a number of minor league hockey and basketball teams, as well as a professional soccer team, a coliseum (owned by the locally beloved fried chicken chain Bojangles), and more.

The hottest time of year in Charlotte is July and August, when the scorching sun calls for breathable, light clothing and plenty of sunscreen. The cold season lasts from November through February, when temperatures are typically below freezing.
