Frank Reich talks team progress after OTAs

Reich talked about his assessment of OTAs, Bryce Young getting first-team reps, and setting goals for mandatory minicamp.

Is there any change to the depth chart Resident right now uh yeah Bryce has Bryce has taken uh with the snaps with The ones this week that was something That at the beginning Scott and I kind Of earmarked a time when we thought Would be best kind of mapping it out Talked it through with the staff you Know at the beginning of the off season This was kind of the time that we had Marked this week to just kind of move Him up it's just the next step right I Mean you know there's nothing I'm not Saying there's really nothing to say Other than hey we just wanted to move Him up this week felt like it's been the Right time he had a couple weeks to Watch Andy that was really that was Really good stuff and Andy's continued To perform at a very high level you know Bryce is doing well Matt's doing well It's you know we're just trying to get Our team ready everything is about What's best for our team and so this was Just the next step was the timing of it Important prior to mini camp at all time Yeah I mean I think yeah there was a Little bit of a get mini camp and if we Can get some things you know get some Things moving in a direction Um but you know everything is it's Everything is you know we're just a Progress it's a work in progress you Know getting ready for mini camp you

Know coming back to Camp that whole Process like that seems like the right Thing to do right how much of a depth Chart is there this time of year You know it's there's there's a depth Chart Um it gets talked about so player you Know we like the players to kind of Understand a little bit but we Understand we're not in pads Um and there's only so much you can see But it is worth talking about and Helping guys understand where they're at Guys handle well coaches are doing a Good job nobody's been boosted up just To clarify uh will he continue to be That guy with the first team moving Forward For right now for right now that was our Move you know so you know again I'm not There's really nothing more to say other Than this was a time we had earmarked to Make a move we made the move we'll just Keep progressing and we're always going To do what's best for the team how did You work through the meaty part of Install as you start to focus on can you Talk about how you're now starting to Focus on the more intricate Parts uh of The passing game and in particular how It involves the tight ends yeah we're Getting a chance to go back and and do a Couple things you know run some of our Course up multiple reps against multiple

Coverages and blitzes and so on so forth We're talking about a lot of situational Football getting looks at that stuff Right and the big thing is every Everybody is really progressing just to Answer the question everybody wants to Know how you know how things are looking You know at all the positions but uh Quarterback the guys that I think the Quarterbacks will hand on the offense Really well you know Andy set the tone Early a set of really high standard for Everybody and uh you know Matt's done a Good job Bryce has continued to step in There and do a good job and continue to Make progress but we still you know as An offense as a team we I love where We're at right now but we still have a We still have a long way to go where we Need to be but we still have a long way To go are you seeing everything you need To see right now in a Bryce room yeah I Mean you know I mean but what we Continue need to see is he and everybody Else continues to improve you know what I mean and find ways to get better and We're seeing that from Bryce I'm seeing That from Andy seeing that from all the Guests journey to JC I mean what are Your concerns as far as the depth at That cornerback position you're not Concerned this has been uh you know this Off season you know obviously with CJ Not taking some reps and Dante not

Taking reps so uh our secondary guys Have got a lot of work this injury to JC Thankfully it's not you know a Non-surgical injury And so he should be ready for training Camp but I love the work that our Secondary has done Um Gives us gives us a lot of confidence in Our guys great how did he do it How did he injure himself Um and work out you know in the workout Frank miles Sanders how's he looked and What are your kind of plans around the Miles has looked good I mean you know He's he's a three down back he can do a Little bit of everything he's explosive He's fast he's really got good vision And patience Um really smart you know on third down When he has to block he's a willing Blocker great teammate really that that Signing was a really big signing for us I mean I knew we knew it but now we Really know it all right um so you know How this running backs you can't really They can't really show what they have Until they get the pads on but miles Looks great we saw DJ take team drills Today you've kind of accelerated him up Throughout the last couple of weeks what Have you seen for him so far yeah he Made it you guys see the play made today That deep deep ball down the sideline

Was a real nice catch and you know that Those are the kind of plays we're Looking for from DJ and you know I gave Him a lot of credit I give our training Staff a lot of credit but DJ you know Just getting him keeping him on Pace Staying patient Um You know and DJ you know he's been Really anxious you know to want to get Out there you know it's hard to sit in There and watch all the time so we've Kind of paced it um and these look good A couple days uh this week You gave up a lot given to DJ Moore to The fairs you feel like what you build Around the room now You can totally replace that or yeah I Mean I obviously wasn't here with DJ so I know he's a great player but I love I Love our room Um you know anybody who's been around me Knows we like to spread the ball around You know what I mean we like to spread The ball around and feel like we can do That with this group we have Adam's come In and done a great job the viscous look Good you know terrorists DJ the whole The whole crew I mean we've really done A good job and tight ends I think the Tight end room has been you know Exceeded expectations in many ways so Excited about the skill group Camp he had uh you talked about making

These guys uncomfortable really pushing Them and trying to throw a lot of Information at them from that point to This point what have you seen from Bryce In terms of his processing and retention Is it where you thought it would be Higher look where at yeah I mean Obviously had a very high expectations You know as far as mentally and those Expectations have been met Um you know but he's like everybody else It's it's a new offense it's especially Some of the stuff that uh some of the Other stuff that we're doing that he's Not done before there's a lot that we're Doing that he has done before Um but you know I hope it's been Challenging to him I think it has been And he's like everybody else out here You know you run enough plays you're Going to make some mistakes and learn From them but he's been he's been great About that Frank with everything that's Happened with Indianapolis and Detroit And the gambling Interactions and you know the break Coming up how have you educated the Players and the staff on the gambling Rules for the league yeah it's a big Deal you know I mean obviously we you Know fully support and agree with Everything the league is doing in this Area is something to be taken very Serious so you approach the education

Process through multiple efforts a lot Of it you know we have a great support Staff and then the league sends in People to do training thing more formal Things but then there's a lot of Informal discussion with our Player Development people and it's an ongoing Process right this is a a new issue and And players will continue to you know And coaches right we all need to Continue to understand how important This is for the Integrity of our game And fully support what the league is Doing Frank is there more of the teams In the league and the union the agents All of us could be doing in terms of Education Yeah I mean I think if we all just Incrementally give a little bit right You know And unfortunately sometimes it takes Something happening in a time or two for Oh this is real you know what I mean That's just you hate to say it I mean You don't you don't want to see it but Sometimes you don't think it's real Until it happens you know you just and And so hopefully it's a wake-up call for All of us to understand how serious of a Matter this really is is it an emphasis You know this facility is kind of sacred When it comes to that gambling Yeah well the game is sacred you know Like yeah and and this is you know being

In on our you know in-house like there's Just you know talking about house rules You know what I mean and uh there's League wide rules and then there's house Rules you know um and we want to do Things a certain way and thankfully we Got we got players who I think are just Top-notch High character guys you know Listen I'm sure we're going to make Mistakes along the road nobody's perfect But I feel like we have the right kind Of players in here and coaches that can Continue to understand the importance of Off off the field issues do you have a Position on the North Carolina passing The sports betting Bill last night uh no No position About your marking this week is a time To move up with price did you guys Discuss that with him in advance and Then how is when did you guys come up With this I guess this calendar of his Progress yeah that's a good question Um no did not discuss it with him until The end of last week right so because You know I mean just wanted to kind of Keep open we could have shifted it we Could have moved it up moved it back I Really didn't want to move it up because I thought things were going the way we Wanted Um and so at the end of last week I you Know pulled Bryce aside and Andy aside You know just to say hey we talked about

This from the beginning you guys are Doing it exactly like you know we wanted So great job you know we're going to Make this switch and and move forward Once you don't feel like you'll be Comfortable saying he is our story Yeah not yet you know I mean you know He's showing everything you want to see But we don't have to again this goes Back to even the draft decision you Don't make a decision until you have to Make it right so Um we'll just keep giving him and our Team the opportunity to get better and To earn that starting role you know so Far you know he and a lot of our guys Are taking the steps needed to earn that Spot but we don't have to make that Decision yet so we'll just kind of keep Keep chugging along here all right thank You
