DJ Chark: Competition brings out the best in me

Chark talked about the benefits of being challenged by veteran teammates.

Don't forget if we ask you this during Our today Looking at them uh At least have a man say so I'm gonna go With Romance You told that to JCPenney hey he played DB you talking about receivers only Person I think probably really got me Might be Dante maybe maybe Big deal about his Madden rating I don't Really care about what the rain is I Just want the speed where I needed to be The other stuff is you know I can adjust That if I need to Know uh More about the person just a great Person a great teammate great friend uh Very smart funny uh You know those things carry over you Know on the field because you can have Those conversations and The moment never gets too big or too Tense you know because you have that Relationship with them so I think that Was the biggest thing you know out there In Dallas uh You know just hanging out running routes Uh and things like that so being with The guys just all the receivers you know The running backs and things like that Just having that camaraderie is being And I think it really truly carried over To what we're doing now Uh I don't know the exact number but I

Would say probably within the three days Like Probably total like 15. I got to talk about this humility I just wonder if we can kind of give us An example of that Uh example of it uh You know just the way that he carry Himself he he comes in uh when we're Having conversations you know it's never Really about him if they're if you ask Him a question about him he's really Genuine with the answer uh Like I I'm a person to ask questions About the person so I actually know Quite a bit about him at this point you Know and it's never anything you know Arrogant or cocky or Rich you know it Could be you know because a lot of Accomplishments you know first pick uh Heisman winner things like that but it's Usually the Small Things uh You know he told me he used to drive and Work doordash you know like first year As a quarterback at Bama I don't know if I'm supposed to tell nobody but I did But uh just things like that you know How many Heisman uh QBs you know that Was doing stuff like that like that's Just humble to me so Report about we talk about a lot of the Human element that you were trying to Find with him how important is that in Addition to what you're doing right now

Uh it's huge because you know when we Out there and say a mistake is made you Know I'm going to talk to Bryce the Person not Bryce the QB and that's the Difference uh if I'm talking to just Bryce the QB it's you do this and I'm I'm doing that are you talking to me It's the person it's more like what was You thinking or hey my bad I wouldn't You know I was thinking this or and like Just that chemistry builds and then now I I kind of know what he's thinking I Kind of you know know how he's you know I know his mentality so I I know he's a Go-getter so he's probably going to Throw this deep ball so things like that I would say so uh you know those plays You know sometimes it's audible Sometimes that's what the play is but I Know if there's a chance to you know Attack we're probably going to attack And so I know that's his mentality so me As a receiver the other receivers know Go get it and that's the type of players That we have and you know it's only day Two we have a long ways to go but uh it Shows that that's the mentality that we Want around here you know DJ Uh Kevin Johnson once said that Sean Jefferson was the best wife receivers Coach in the league was a big part of His success Got to know him a little bit now let's Talk about him as a coach him as a man

What what's your first impressions if You do positions coach old school man uh I had a few receiving coaches so far and He's he's definitely the Hard-nosed grind it out Take your reps you don't come out you're Tired you know so what And you know You don't really get that a lot in the League you know a lot of times in the League you get uh You get the he's a player coach I'm not Gonna say he's not a player coach but You get the coach that's going to allow You to slack off you know and he's not That he's going to force you to compete Everybody has to compete there's nobody Just gets to go in and uh this is my Spot I could be comfortable which I Appreciate because at this point in my Career You know competition always in my life Bring the best out of me that's just Whenever I can just sit there and be uh Comfortable complacent and I have to I Have to figure out how to push myself But it's good to be able to push myself Still but also have guys around me That's going to push me too and I know I Could push them and that just makes us Better I just have to go down the whole roster Everybody has since I've been here I Started off with feeling you know he run

Like he's 26 which is pretty impressive Because he's not uh You got you know Terrence who's a baller Goes up make a lot of contested catches You know really impressive Mingo you Know fast consistently make nice catches You have leviska who One minute he's in a huddle as the Receiver next minute he's in the hood of His running back you never know what Position he's playing very versatile uh Even guys like Derek Wright who when I First met him you know I'm not thinking Much and then he's out there making toe Tapping catches and things like that and It's like I gotta step it up you know Things like that so everybody in every Room and I didn't mention everybody but You know there's I can give you a Characteristic of something that one of The receivers did from everybody in that Room and they all compete in this it's Really good Kind of trying to take Bryson Entertaining what is The way that he approached every day uh And he's very approachable I had a good Chance you know meet him meet his family Uh His son actually had me On the cover of his iPad which was Really cool so now me and him you know We locked in me in the sun uh but Andy's A great guy anything you need he's there

For you I've been able to talk to him About a lot of different things Personally uh like things that we both Have in common that he's been able to Help me with uh and I've been able to You know take that with my family Because he's obviously a family man as Well so I think it's it's great to have Him uh You know in the locker room very Unselfish of a lot of wisdom there A lot of teams have new quarterbacks Bucks Saints got the Young quarterback You guys got a new quarterback how do You view this Division I mean you feel Like it's kind of like a wide open Anybody's game oh for sure you know Crazy I grew up watching this division Because I was a Saints fan you know and Now I'm playing and I get to play them Twice and it's you know I feel like one Thing about the NFL that I realized last Year with uh Detroit is you know every Week is different like you come in and You say hey these are the guys to watch For these are the guys that's going to Do this and then mid season you changing It and then at the end of the season you Can change it again you know it's all About how you approach each week You know we have we open up with Division games but I'm pretty sure the Falcons and the Saints won't be the same Team that they were week one and two

When we meet them later in the season so I think the biggest thing for us is for Us to be consistent for us to be who we Are and if we are who we are we're going To be fine we're going to be good no Matter what division we are in but you Know if we're inconsistent or be shaky Then who knows but I feel like we're Going to come in we're going to be who We are and it's going to show uh And that's that's my mentality that's What the team is saying we have to prove It no matter what people say how weak or Strong the division is because it Changes every day You said he's still one of the fastest Guys out there obviously look to you oh Good you know uh one thing you can't Take away is confidence And that's one thing that he has and as Long as you have that you know uh it's Great but he's definitely moving uh very Good in and out of breaks uh but also You know he's a year older so the I feel Like in this league the older you get The less you truly need to rely on just Physical uh gifts which is a blessing You know so although he still have those Gifts I feel like he's you know a year Wiser a year smarter and those things Definitely uh show up on the field To be the last one right here over the Years It seemed like you're fitting in well

Here do you feel like you kind of Started to find a home Oh for sure uh you know I was in Jacksonville for four and I actually Played with a few of these guys in Jacksonville then last year I went to Detroit And you know Coach deuce and Coach wash are here and You know Deuce is a big reason why I'm Here uh the conversations that we had in Free agency uh was big for me just Knowing the type of person that he is And Uh you know just how I know he'll have Your back and so being able to uh Confide in him him helped bring me in And then meeting the rest of these uh Coaches it's great you know obviously This is a production uh basically so uh You have to earn your keep wherever you Go uh as far as you know chemistry and Things like that you know I feel great I Love I'm from the south so being back in The south is uh refreshing you know I Like I'm used to the heating the Mosquitoes that's all around so it's It's what I know so in Charlotte it's a Great City it's uh beautiful a lot of Things to do a lot of things for my kids And my wife to do so you know It checks off all the boxes for me Thank y'all Thank you
