Things to Do in Charlotte, North Carolina
Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News
Whether it’s a booming economy or the twinkly skyline, there are many reasons why people move to Charlotte. But some residents say it’s the friendly, welcoming people that keep them here.
Like other major cities, Charlotte is home to a diverse mix of people and neighborhoods that cater to everyone from the young and hip in NoDa to the older crowd in upscale suburban areas. It’s also home to a number of higher learning institutions, including the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Davidson College, which attract a steady stream of college graduates.
There’s never a shortage of things to do in Charlotte. The city’s burgeoning entertainment scene includes heated sports battles and chart-topping entertainers along with an array of annual festivals.
The city’s green spaces, 35 miles of bike paths and easy access to the mountains and beach make it a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts. People can hike or bike the trails at Freedom Park, go whitewater rafting or paddleboard on the Catawba River.
If you’re a fan of superheroes, don’t miss HeroesCon, which brings comic book fans and creators together in June. Or take your kids to explore nature at Discovery Place Nature Museum or pan for gold at Reed Gold Mine, the first documented place where golden nuggets were found in the United States.
For shoppers, Charlotte’s SouthPark mall is the biggest in the state with Nordstrom’s and Macy’s among its prestigious stores. The area is also famous for golf, with a number of renowned courses, including Quail Hollow, where the Wachovia Golf Tournament takes place each year.
