Frank Reich speaks after Falcons game

Reich assessed the Panthers’ performance and addressed an injury update.

Okay I'm just going to go ahead and open It right up You know Atlanta is just they were Opportunistic Um they were opportunistic as a team Um I saw some encouraging things on the On the field today in all three phases But we did you know we have to own the Fact of that we didn't play well enough As a team what we talked about in the Locker room was We we never accept losing those there's Good things out there Good things by each unit good things by Cert by individuals but there's only one Outcome in this league that's acceptable And that's one again we didn't get that Done today so every player and coach has To own that Yeah disappointing that we lost I mean And there are multiple reasons for that Um obviously we've got to protect the Football you know but don't I would be Careful to say much more than that I Mean because again I got to see the film There's multiple things that go into Turnovers it's not always what it Appears on the surface so you got to dig Into the tape a little bit more Down did that change That change the rest of the game did you Maybe end up passing more than you had Planned on Um

A little bit but you know we got back And then we got backed up they went Ahead and I can't remember the whole Sequence and then we got the ball we had That funky thing where we ended up on The minus one with two offsetting Penalties with with a very strange not a Strange world it's the rule at least That's what they told me so we ended up In the minus one and just felt like you Know we were going to be aggressive Coming out being backed up and and then Um so yeah you don't want to ideally you Don't want to throw the ball You know 38 times Um that's not terrible but probably want To throw a little bit less and Frank Yeah I just I assumed I assumed it was a Re-kick you know two offsetting Penalties Um they explained it to me Um They took a long time looking it up and Getting confirmation and said that it's A it doesn't come up much it's an odd Rule or not odd it but it is what it is I think it was because they were both Personal fouls if I'm remembering what They said to me that that's what made it A different category I saw me Uh shots as long as completion was 14 Yards how much of that was the game plan And then

The Applause for missing DJ Um look about you know some of it was a Game plan you know but some of it you Know you're playing on the road and Um But you know some of it they get just Got to go back and see what was there You know I thought we had some Opportunities to get a few chunk plays Got to go back and look at the tape Um like I said I You know maybe I'll feel differently When I watch the tape but I felt like There were a lot of good things moving The football on offense and then we just Heard ourselves a few times and Um but not good enough Yeah I have to go back and look at the Tape obviously but yeah he's he's very Effective over the middle and he had he Was today he had a number of completions Over the middle today I think especially Early on and then they made they made a Couple good plays I had to go back and Look at the tape so to kind of See where where things broke down Yeah he handled himself great I mean he Was in complete control never but you Know even after we had turnovers you Know he was never down I mean he was Just next play mentality so kind of pro That we expected Yeah yeah exactly there were and just Thought there were a number of

Encouraging things you know we ended up Losing by two scores but it's a you know It's a tight game you know obviously Felt like the opening drive was a good Drive we get down we get third and two And we have two runs called and we can't Pick up and we don't pick up two yards And We Come Away with zero points you Know on that first try uh that was a That hurt you know now we got to Overcome it so we had a nice drive there You know I had the other nice drive that You're referring to so a lot encouraging Things but got to be better It was a pretty clear you know I mean it Was because it was really short you know It wasn't it was kind of a short yard With the play that we felt good about Um you know and although I'm not going To just be a chart guy it was a it was a Very strong go on the charts Your assessment is Yeah the update on JC is um you know had A hamstring so we'll see the severity of That Um I thought Brian Played like he practices you know I Think Brian played today like he Practiced and that's hard he plays with Something to prove out of practice every Day Um you know did he have a little Something extra to prove given the Situation you'll have to ask him that

Question but what I saw was that's how He practices Yeah I mean he's a great player I mean He's he's absolutely integral in every Way not just as a player as a leader From framing this position before as a Quarterback in this league and having a First career game what is your message To Bryce to kind of stick in there if no One as tough as he is on himself yeah I Mean listen I I'm not Bryce is the last Person I'm worried about you know how He'll handle this he's got the maturity Of someone Way Beyond his years he's a Team first person you know he'll be hard At himself and each of us should be that Was kind of the message that we talked About in there every one of us players And coaches should be hard on herself You know in the next 24 hours it should Not taste good and we need to eat every Bit of it and um otherwise you don't Learn and get better from it so we got To feel the disappointment and the hurt And but not just feel it we gotta figure Out how to get better and I I believe We'll do that as a team After you know you were brought in this Coaching staff brought into developers Right and he has a couple of turnovers And doesn't play a baby out to the Standings that he was set for himself I'm just curious how much you're looking For forward to just kind of diving in

With them and to start this process of Building them up Yeah and uh really looking forward to it Could not there's not another guy in the World I'd want to work with you know What I mean he's got everything you want As a player as a leader as a person Um and I thought he did a lot of good Things today I mean he did a lot of Really good things handling himself you Know really well on the road in a Division game Um you know We'll evaluate it play by play any Mistakes that were made just like we Will every other player on the team and As coaches we evaluate ourselves so Um but looking forward to the you know The ongoing opportunity because it's a Great opportunity to get it you know you Get to work with a player and a person Like that Thanks guys
