The Best Places to Live and Work in Charlotte, North Carolina
Whether you like heated sports battles, chart-topping entertainers or colorful city celebrations, Charlotte has something for everyone. A booming business center, diverse culture and exciting neighborhoods make this city the perfect place to live and work. Housing expenses are below the national average and grocery prices are 3% lower than the nation’s average.
The heart of Charlotte beats in downtown’s soaring skyline. The busy 7th Street Public Market has a variety of local shopping, bars and places to grab a bite to eat, all in one place. Trendy restaurants, high-end steakhouses and rooftop cocktail bars are also found in downtown Charlotte. The city’s historic wards are also distinct from each other, creating an eclectic mix of professional types and artsy creatives.
There are also a number of unique shopping destinations in Charlotte, including the historic Latta Arcade and Specialty Shops SouthPark. The latter is a massive outdoor mall with a mix of big-name retailers, boutiques and upscale restaurants. The area also has a burgeoning craft beer scene, with plenty of great breweries to visit and sample.
Like all major cities, traffic can be a bit of an issue in Charlotte, especially during rush hour. But compared to other metropolitan areas of similar size, the city has lower congestion levels. Public transportation options are available, but most Charlotte residents still rely on cars to get around.
There are a wide variety of schools in the Charlotte area, from pre-kindergarten all the way through college. Niche, a website that helps new residents find excellent schools, gives Charlotte’s schools an overall rating of B+.
