Hey how you doing good morning good you Know I actually um want to talk to you About you know um something else um you Know we like to induct you into the Panthers Hall of Honor what you know you know your name Up in the stadium forever and ever and Ever man are you serious yes I'm dead Serious man Wow complete M Muhammad he breaks free He's at the 20 at the Foot Race 10 five Musen Muhammad has taken it home Hees it Downfield for Mohammad in the endzone he Got it touchdown what a great catch by m Mohamd two1 carries two Saints into the End zone touchdown Panthers fi for Mohamd he's got it at the 30 he's to the 20 St tler Touchdown touchdown Carolina Hey Charlotte how you doing uh musen Muhammad just want to welcome welcome You all to the Muhammad house and uh Today I'm going to be giving you just a Little tour and I don't know show you Guys how I'm living come on this Way this is my high school Jersey and You might might be wondering why is There 25 on there right When I was in high school I played Linebacker and running back when I made That transition to college my dad said Hey you know you should play wide Receiver because you've got the size you
Got the length and so it could be a good Transition for you and Banks is going to Throw got his man that is Mohamad for The touchdown how about that we went up To Michigan State to work him out and I Said there's a lot of the same qualities Here as Andre Reed Andre Reed able to Break the tackle number one I he really Got off the ball and he had great Explosion into his routes we saw Definitely a building block to winning Was drafted here in 1996 43rd pick Panthers have selected mine Muhammad Wide receiver for Michigan State College Pros I think this one looks more like me Though Right from day one of mini camp moose is Going to be in the lineup that's a Rarity with rookies it's it's really Rare fires over the middle touchdown M Mohamed well first of all like it's Definitely eye opening when you walk out There and you see a big ass receiver Like moose the first impression was like You know that's a wide receiver M Muhammad is not like a slender receiver He's a built dude if I would have to Describe musen Muhammad in one word it Would be Toughness if mus in there it was going Beit a thing of beauty he played defense But on Offense we played the Saints and I threw A smoke out to him we were inside the 10
And moose could have made a move and Maybe get to the pylon yeah let me just Run right through him and the safety Might have come and just I'm going right Through both of Them that's that's all you need to know About the physicality of moose moose was The ability to catch the short tough Pass get the crap knocked at him get he' Bounce back up and he could also go deep He he was a a dual threat in so many Different ways the most important thing A receiver has to have is really good Hands and he Did in all the years that I've covered The team moose was always that light he Was always that fun you know football Players are often compared to Gladiators we were there to get the Crowd into it make the game Fun and when I heard that moose call and The fans that would yell it gave me Energy Touchdown Mohamed I don't know a lot of People wonder about my touchdown dance And where it came from you know my first Love sport was basketball and so if I Scored on you that means I just crossed You up touchdown Panthers the hatrick For moose he's got three scores you know I think you know whenever you talk about A receiver you just think about pass Catches number of catches one of the Things we stressed there and and he
Reacted to was doing all all your job And I loved him because he liked the Dirty Work boo was a dog you look on fil he Got some of the most devastating blocks I took pride in my blocking cornerbacks And safeties hated to guard him because He blocked them like an offensive Lineman he would start blocking them at Maybe the let's say the 30 yd line and He would not stop until he got to the Concession SP he had the if you ever Looked at his hands there were vice Grips and when you'd latch on to Somebody and he would just kind of laugh And moose that's whole smooth way he'd Laugh and he'd block him and they would Hurt he might have been as good a Blocking Z receiver that's ever played In the League you know John Fox loved it he Wanted to run the ball because we had Two great wide receivers weren't afraid To Block you know he's tell me hey you know You have to contribute in the Run game And I will contribute but I never um Never really took that step up until Like moose was like look this is what You have to do we challenged each other We made each other better we had a lot Of fun and we made it tough to play Against us you know as competition you Know breeds success and so they were
Very competitive uh whether it be in Practice or uh even in game time what I Was trying to do um moose was already Doing it and he he he was just he was a Tough dude to to just chase after we Vibed as teammates we competed as like a Sibling rivalry if moose had a One-handed catch I would try to have two Or three if moose finish 50 yards I Would to finish 55 yards we came to a a Professional agreement that he said he Would slow down a little bit but he Didn't that's funny Toom out of the Shotgun B is coming throws it up field He's got Mohammad caught oh moose with a Great catch delom out of the shotgun has It again fire caught it touchdown Smitty Was putting up the you know he put up Video game numbers and and and score the Touchdowns and be that electrifying Receiver that he was but Moose was a was The the steady Pros Pro and alls he did Was help Steve grow as a player as a Person we needed each other we knew what We meant to the team but I think what Was bigger is what we meant to each Other he always had my best interest in At heart you know just the way I grew up I never really had that big brother cuz I was the oldest uh in my family so I Never really had that big brother I Never really had that person and so Moose really gave me that um something That I needed at that time I didn't
Really realize didn't notice they Respected the hell out of each other and Steve will say it like he respected Moose on the field but he respected him Off the field as a father everything There was a deep deep respect and listen You're talking about two alpha males Both had big egos but in the right way So me he wasn't a teammate he wasn't um He was family the memories on the field Formulated a bond and a friendship that Um every time we see each other it's Just like we're like kids we just Giggle And smile and it's it's always fun you Know it was special playing with that With that kid and and and we had a lot Of fun and I think if Steve and I could Have complimented each other for a Couple more years after his injury I Mean who knows how many championships we We could have went back and Won In 2004 Steve Smith got hurt in the first Game Steve goes down with an injury our Whole offense changes we run a Completely different offense we moose Becomes the 100% focal point they asked Me to go back to being a number one in The offense I said yeah I can step up And play that Role when it was time for him to be that Number one and for the offense to kind Of be on his shoulders he had big enough
Shoulders to do That here's delom again the throw fires Moose caught it touchdown half right Side M Muhammad makes the catch Touchdown Carolina that's what I'm Talking About at 30 years old I go out and I get 16 touchdowns lead the league and Receive receiving yards and catches and Have a phenomenal year and he showed Everybody around the league that he was Still a number one and that he could Still play at the highest level nothing Changes I'm going to continue to be the Leader uh that I've been this whole time Floats it down field for Mohammad he Caught it at the five stays in bounds Takes it in the end zone touchdown Carolina but now all of a sudden I'm Going to have more opportunities to show That I felt like I had a lot to Prove Okay now as you can see Here this is the world famous pose from The Sports Illustrated magazine And you guys all remember what that Looked like right from the uh uh NFC Championship game up in Philadelphia the NFC championship game like it's cold It's freezing you know everybody's Philly supposed to win third times a Charm you know this team coming from the South don't play good in the cold Weather all that moose killed
That go super bow three 1 2 3 theone back to throw looks looks Nobody open Hees it downfield for Muhammad in the end zone he got it Touchdown what a great catch by m Muhammd and delom got pounded as he let It go know the ball gets stuck up in the Air Troy Vincent all the guys around and Moose comes down with the ball when he Caught the touchdown he did his little Moose Dan and he got on the knee and did This to the link sh and it was quiet the Rest of the Game scores a touchdown over the middle And then looks over at the cameras and Does this which was the message to the Philadelphia crowd y'all can be quiet we Got this we're going to the Super Bowl we're going to Super Bowl 38 a big Play could happen at any point in time With this offense now we're kind of Known as hey we run on first down run on Second down throw on third down but when We would throw the ball they were Explosive plays and in the Super Bowl You saw moose uh make an explosive Play for all the marbles Super Bowl 38 The Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots so a huge play here for The Carolina offense Mohammad and CER Out wi so the Super Bowl record um Longest touchdown pass is a play We Called X on and it was something we ran All the time with Dan Henning that one
Sticks out cuz it was a big point in the Game in the second half as we tried to Come back against the New England Patriots some receivers or players if You're not really getting the ball they Kind of they'll Coast it in to Mo's Credit he never Stopped here's the third and 10 call Play action theone back to throw well That particular play they played Coverage and didn't really have anything Kind of got flushed and loose is Streaking down Jake spots him lets it Fly I was actually on the right side and so When they threw it I had my hands up Nobody open now sets up deep down field From mohamd he's got it at the 30 he's To the 20 stiff arms a tackler Touchdown touchdown Carolina oh my goodness 85 yards Wow we we started looking like wow That's a that's a Super Bowl record how About that the Super Bowl ball right There there that's the world's longest Pass in Super Bowl history those were Special touchdowns because it was when Your team really needed you to come up With a play that play will live in Super Bowl History Touchdown touchdown Carolina oh my Goodness
Hey we've talked about all of the Physical qualities the difference Between good and great is what you got Here and here and moose had heart and Intelligence in Abundance this is my pride and joy of Course me and my wife and here's a Little collage I helped my daughter put Together when she was 4 years old And go go go what he has done with his Family what he has done in this Community like I can truly say say he's A true friend I think musen Muhammad is One of the Panthers all-time favorite Sons what he did in the community his The imprint with his foundation and then That he went to Chicago and then came Back and authored two really fine Seasons to end his career as a Carolina Panther moose was one of my all-time Favorite teammates would do anything and Everything for the team First always a guy that came to work Every day and said hey let's be better Today than we were yesterday that's what Takes that guy that you see as a raw Product and makes him a person whose Name is on the wall U me going in it was Cool I enjoyed it but for moose to go in Um for us as a Panthers I think it's Bigger it brought me to tears when Dave Teer told me that my name was going to Be in this Stadium forever and I was Going to be remembered forever as one of
The best that ever played in this Stadium I know I sacrificed a lot I Worked hard I was I was a student of the Game gets me choked up a little bit when I say it but um what I put on tape was Always going to be a representation of Who I Was and I let the tape Define breaks the Tack he's gone touchdown mus Mohamed he Caught it touchdown he turned around Like McKenzie 10 five M mamed has taken It home moose was the hardest old he he Was the backbone of the team he was a Champion the whole time I was there I Think that musen Muhammad's name on that Ring of that Stadium forever is is Absolutely poetic one of the original Panthers you think of moose Muhammad Down from M mohamd got it touchdown what A great catch by Mohamed the he's The Carolina
