Located along the south-central North Carolina border, Charlotte has a lot going on. From heated sports battles and chart-topping entertainers to colorful city celebrations and unique shopping opportunities, the Queen City has a little bit of something for everyone.

A diverse and growing city, Charlotte offers a plethora of entertainment options from its bustling downtown area to quaint suburban communities. The urban center of Uptown is home to the Levine Museum of the New South, which explores post–Civil War history in the region, and Discovery Place, which features hands-on science exhibits. Outside of the city, you’ll find pristine mountain scenery and a number of parks that host seasonal festivals.

For a touch of culture, the Charlotte New Music Festival features music and dance collaborative workshops, lectures and performances. If outdoor recreation is your thing, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden hosts Holidays at the Garden from November through December. This event is a must-see during the holidays for its spectacular display of over a million lights, festive music and family activities.

For families, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system serves K–12 programs across the city’s seven school districts. Its 175 primary and secondary schools have a diverse student body, with students of all ethnicities and races. Depending on your child’s school, it’s important to pick the right district and housing to ensure their educational needs are met.
