The physical layout of Charlotte reflects its growth over the 20th century. The city is relatively wide for its size, and the majority of the suburbs are newer, though some are as old as the 1700s. A ring of interstates, the I-485 loop, surrounds the city. The center of Charlotte is dense and bustling, and is the primary destination for business and tourist travelers. The population is about 1.1 million, and the area has plenty of attractions.
The city has many annual events, including the annual Labor Day Parade. There is also Charlotte Shout, a month-long cultural festival that includes free admission to cultural institutions. Festival in the Park, which has been held in Freedom Park for 40 years, transforms the park into an urban market. The Charlotte Film Festival is a collaboration of major theaters in the city, while the Yiasou Greek Festival is a long-running tradition at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
The city also has plenty of great restaurants. Popular restaurants in Charlotte include Cabo Fish Taco and Azteca Mexican Restaurant, which serve Mexican and Latin American cuisine. Other notable restaurants include Pisces Sushi, Mr. Tokyo, and Ru San’s, which specialize in Chinese and Japanese cuisines. Additionally, there are Italian and Middle Eastern cuisines. And for those with a sweet tooth, Charlotte has a number of bakeries to satisfy their cravings.
