Charlotte North Carolina Attractions and Sports

Aside from being one of the USA’s financial centers, Charlotte is also home to six Fortune 500 companies. Many businesses are headquartered here, including the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and NFL’s Carolina Panthers. There are also many attractions and sports teams for fans of all kinds. Aside from sports, Charlotte is home to many high-tech and academic institutions, and cultural offerings are abundant. The city’s growing international profile has made it a significant player in the global marketplace. International companies play a vital role in tying Charlotte into the global economy, and over 1,000 firms are headquartered here.

In the 1750s, European colonists began settling in the area around Charlotte. Thomas Spratt, a German immigrant, settled near the Elizabeth neighborhood. Thomas Polk, a great-uncle to U.S. President James K. Polk, built a house near an intersection of two Native American trading paths, one of which ran north-south along the Great Wagon Road and the other, east-west along Trade Street.

There are many places to explore in Charlotte, including its beautiful neighborhoods. The Fourth Ward has historic architecture, including the Old Settlers Cemetery, where the first settlers of Charlotte are buried. Families will enjoy ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center, a unique educational program that features a children’s theater. A museum for children is also a must-see when visiting Charlotte.
