When it comes to entertainment, Charlotte North Carolina has more than one sporting attraction to choose from. There are several professional teams and two minor league teams. There is the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League, as well as the Charlotte Knights, a Triple-A East affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. There are also several minor league teams, including the Charlotte Independence of the USLC and the Charlotte Thunder of the American Athletic League.
Charlotte is home to several museums and art galleries. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art features world-class collections by well-known modern artists. The museum also features art studios and a museum store. The admission fee is $10 and the museum is open daily except Tuesday. Another museum in Charlotte is the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame. This non-profit organization offers performances by local and national artists.
The Charlotte area is surrounded by lakes and rivers. There are some great places to go fishing and boating. The Catawba River and Lake Norman are near Charlotte. You can also take advantage of the public transportation system to get around town. Once you’ve moved to Charlotte, you’ll soon feel at home in the area.
The area around Charlotte was first settled by European colonists around 1755. Thomas Spratt settled in the Elizabeth neighborhood, and Thomas Polk, the great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, built his house on the intersection of two Native American trading paths. One path ran north-south along the Great Wagon Road, and the other path went east-west along Trade Street.
