Charlotte North Carolina – A Vibrant City With a Booming Economy
Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News
With a vibrant city scene and a booming economy, Charlotte is an excellent choice for newcomers to the South. From heated sports battles to chart-topping entertainers, Charlotte is full of excitement.
Local festivals bring the town together throughout the year. Head to Freedom Park in the fall for Festival in the Park, or visit Little Sugar Creek Greenway in the spring for Kings Drive Art Walk. Music lovers will enjoy the wide range of venues, from Tremont Music Hall to the Milestone Club. Meanwhile, the Levine Center for the Arts hosts high-culture performances, including the Charlotte Symphony and North Carolina Dance Theatre.
Charlotte is home to several colleges and universities, and the city’s public two-year tuition rates are the second lowest in the country. However, with the recent housing boom, rent is rising and some neighborhoods have become too expensive for young families.
The city is divided into four distinct wards, with the busy Public Market, Bank of America Stadium, and the Spectrum Center where the Hornets play in the heart of downtown Charlotte. Outside the city center, there are historic houses on tree-lined streets and trendy restaurants in gentrified warehouses. Siemens and Duke Energy are major employers in the city, while a growing number of small, clean-energy companies provide jobs for newcomers to the state. The city is equidistant to other North Carolina cities, with Raleigh about 165 miles away and Asheville a two-hour drive.
