Lost to the Mavericks well he went off For over 30 points in this game and Looked like normal good lamelo the Problem is they lost 132 to 116 to the Washington Wizards who were One and five coming into this game and And they flat out I I won't say right From the tip because the first two Minutes Hornets actually were winning And then they got outplayed every second Of the way after maybe the first two Minutes Nick I want to ask you you're The headliner you're the journalist here With the utmost Integrity we don't have That I want to ask you what the major Story is is it the Hornets getting Destroyed by the worst team in the League or is it lamelo our star player Looking like normal star player lamelo Again it is absolutely that Charlotte Got waxed okay by the Wizards man and Just white they wiped the floor clean With the Hornets last night their home Floor um it was brutal I mean this Wizards team came in uh and you're just Looking at the construction of their Roster being like all right this this is Unserious like this is not the serious Team in this situation but turns out Last night the Charlotte Hornets were The unserious team I mean yes I think They they started out like 12 to six They had a five-point lead in the first
Quarter they got beat in the second Quarter 41- 17 by the Washington Wizards Uh the worst one of the worst defensive Teams in the NBA through their first six Games Hornets are almost right there With them uh three-point shoot Everything and they came out and they They turned all of their weaknesses into Strengths against the Charlotte Hornets Their bench was fired Danilo alari Treated Spectrum Center like the Fountain of Youth Cory kissper uh you Know was basically doing whatever he Wanted um you know and Charlotte at at In that second quarter it was like okay They're doing that thing where they're Just trading Twos for threes and then at Some point they're trading zeros for Threes and the seal just broke uh and it Was over from there I mean they were Never really in it they got it back to Eight I think in the fourth quarter but It just wasn't there and I know Terry Roier was out of the lineup but uh you Know the defense three-point defense was Atrocious I I know there's a lot and Walker you were on this early with this Team about teams using that five out uh Offense as a blueprint against Charlotte Well right now the Hornets don't have Any answer for it uh right now their Answer is to basically pull Williams and Richards off the floor because they Can't defend it they and then the guys

Overreacting but so I'll say this this Loss was an Abomination and the Franchise from the top all the way down To the bottom should be ashamed of Themselves for the way that the Hornets Lost this game because you're right Walker we have been waiting a long time For our savior to come at the center Position it finally comes and now teams Decide well we're just going to play Small this team and and it's not just Small other teams decided to play Physical against the Hornets and that Beat them too but in particular lately It's been the Brooklyn Nets before them And now the Washington Wizards that go Five out play small Danilo galinari Putting Mark Williams too deep and and Mark Williams can't recover and then Nick Richards can't recover and it's Just three-pointer after three-pointer On very simple pick and pop plays how Were the Hornets caught so unprepared by This this isn't the first time that Danilo galinari has played center for The Washington Wizards they've done this Before they just haven't been successful With it against other teams until they Finally played the Charlotte Hornets who Don't seem to have an answer um when Teams go small it's it's an Embarrassment look they not only got Beat by the Washington Wizards one of The worst teams in the NBA they got beat
By the bench unit of the Washington Wizards one of the worst teams in the NBA and their bench had no answers I Mean look teams aren't bad by accident And and and they're not bad all of a Sudden it takes years of decision making To get a franchise where the Charlotte Hornets right now where the Charlotte Hornets are right now and they should be Ashamed of Themselves any followup Nick before I Move on with just how awful what we saw Like this is the thing Washington's Bench unit destroying the lack of depth That the Hornets have it it might be the Worst depth in the league at this point I know Steve Clifford talked about miles Bridges coming back and that would help But it's he also acknowledged yeah we Let on can we let's let's pause there And talk about that because if if if That's the answer right if the answer is We're waiting on a player who hasn't Played and over a calendar year to come Back and who can't seem to go a few Months without Landing another Court Date I mean if that's the answer if That's the Saving Grace for this team Then this franchise is in a pretty Pretty sad pretty dark place I Think yeah that's a a maddening uh you Know we keep getting these trickles from Steve Clifford and nobody else about the Miles Bridges situation and Clifford

Miller pick was interesting from Josh Lloyd so he he gives us five players to Choose from I think Dylan Brooks was in There Z you we mentioned bismack bomo Denny AIA you know just some guys that Are lower on the totem pole but because Of injuries they might have a little More value you thought the Brandon Miller Choice was interesting why well I Think it's it's a good kind of sneak Pick because he you know maybe a lot of People don't know that Brandon Miller's Going to be starting because of the Terry Rosier injury so you can kind of Get one over on people and and maybe get Him where he's available but I don't Think he's going to like have big points Performances or big rebounds Performances or big assist performances He's been more of an allaround guy and Focusing on the defensive end of the Floor and not really racking up a ton of Steals just locking guys down which is Super important for the Charlotte Hornets but not particularly beneficial As a fantasy player I will say he's not Much in danger of having like a Two-point night right I mean he's going To do something every night and that's Sort of been the eye-opening thing about Brandon Miller as a rookie is wow he can Come in and consistently contribute in a Lot of different areas it's just like if You're looking for him to score 25 on a

Fault particularly Brandon Miller who I Thought again was excellent defensively But just kind of making a point there That he's he's good for a rookie but There are Still Moments where he's a Rookie well and so this goes to team Building because there was there was a There was a moment last night where we Saw ishi Brandon Miller and Gordon Hayward as Your ball handlers and that lineup had Trouble scoring believe it or not Because it's it's tough to try to figure Out how to facilitate with no backcourt Depth and some of this is okay Cliff you Might just have to ride Teo madone and Lamelo ball until they can't go anymore That's a little worrisome at the Beginning of the season the other part Is wait you just can't go anywhere Because Terry's carries out I don't know What Frank would do offensively like Frank neina coming back is only going to Help you with your perimeter defense Your pick and roll defense not your Halfcourt offense that is not what he's Gonna help you with so this is why I Think Doug at least for me I saw a lot Of people dislike Steve Clifford and Have some hate on my timeline tweeting At me but man most people are angry with Mitch cup because of the way that this Team is constructed I'm only upset with Steve Clifford in that I feel like he's
Not try he he's assuming that adjustment Won't work I would just like to see him Try and then look run into the brick Wall and if it doesn't work then we all Say okay you right let's move on but but He's not even like attempting that Adjustment early on I think that's where Where I think some of the frustration is But on on the team building piece yes It's not as if the Hornets were unaware Over the past five or six seasons well They've been out of the playoffs for the Past seven seasons but for the past four Or five seasons it's not as if they were Aware that like you know shooting is a Priority that you should have a lot of Shooters on the team it's not as if They've been unaware that having one Center who is capable of of pulling a Defense out even if it's not your Starting center even if you want to Prioritize Rim defense a a as as your Primary Center having a backup center That could shoot or or ability to go Small would help you as a franchise These were a series of choices that were Made over the course of several off Seasons that have led us uh to to where We are to a point where the Hornets Offense looks like the Bulls offense Right now it's all twos it's all inside The arc and guess what after only seven Games the book is out teams know go I Did a tape study a tape review for the

About basketball to look at it and go Well yeah they're scoring 20 plus points A game because nobody else can score Because lamelo isn't on the floor and They keep losing basketball games the Reason Mark Williams is perfect from the Field part of the reason I won't take it All away from Mark that would be Disrespectful but part of the reason Mark is perfect from the field and and Has a high percentage is because teams Are going small because they know they Can against the Hornets and they are Allowing Mark Williams to score down low Because they know that the Hornets can't Shoot and and all they have to do is Throw a few more Shooters out there and Hit a few threes and and it's going to Take Mark Williams hitting two shots to Make up for the fact that they can't Shoot threes so that's true but I think It's true for two games in particular And the other teams Detroit just patted Them inside which is not a glowing Review for Mark Williams by any means But it was because they went small Indiana has Miles Turner that they roll Out there it's not like they go small They have Isaiah Jackson as as well it Did absolutely happen that way against The Nets it happened early after the Timeout they finally decided to punish The Nets inside but Dorian finy Smith Just kept hitting threes and we didn't
Know how to defend it and then in this Game against the Wizards that's when They went outside too and so I do think Hopefully it doesn't continue but that's That calls for Steve Clifford to make a Change but yeah I mean in those two Games you're right Mark Williams has Been gifted the paint and he's been able To hit all of his shots it's 80 what what is it now like 84% like I I'm sorry I think it's that's crazy but You're right but you just but you just Kind of made my point for me in that Game against the Pistons when he Actually faced legitimate physical Centers he was one of four from the Field and two points I need to see Mark Williams be perfect from the field or Even close to perfect when he's playing Legitimate Center talent he doesn't even Have the opportunity to do that because Other teams understand that it's not Even worth it to throw something at Mark Williams to to neutralize him teams Aren't even trying to neutralize him Because they understand that that's not The way to beat the Hornets well they're They're hitting threes like that if if They're hitting threes and they don't Have to and that's going to be yeah the Guy is a rim protector type Center I Mean hopefully he learns how to defend On the perimeter you have another thing To say Nick hopefully get your popcorn

Panthers I want to talk about the Inseason tournament um it's going to be The debut they're going to have a a Sweet Court they're playing on it's Going to be in Washington so you don't Have the inseason tournament opening up Here in Charlotte Nick how interesting Is the End season tournament to you I Think it's very interesting now because This the the first part of this season Has not been very interesting for a for Bad reasons so this is something Different uh let's let's see if a a Charlotte sports team can can do Something in this uh that would would be Great and um gosh hopefully they make Some adjustments over the the couple of Days that they have in between games Against the Wizards and um I would have To think the Wizards aren't going to Shoot that well from three even if you Basically give them the looks again Fingers crossed uh so yeah I I think It's I think it's cool like when you Cover a team like the Hornets it is cool To have the inseason tournament because It is something that they can try to Make some noise in because you you know Quite frankly aren't realistic about That happening in April so uh it's cool To have something to play for that Normally isn't there when a team hasn't Had anything to play for uh really in Six years yeah I mean Doug I'm excited
For it like I I'm I'm excited for an Inseason tournament as as sicko as that Might be I am ready to see what the Hornets can do in a different setting And this is what's interesting to me how How serious are the players going to Take it compared to a normal regular Season game does this mean something new To the Charlotte Hornets where no it's Not playoff or playin experience but It's something where the stakes are Turned up just a little bit how do the Hornets respond to different Stakes than What they usually are in the regular Season games do the Hornets fold like We've seen them do just the playin games Or do they turn it up and that's what I Want to see even if it is against the Wizards even if it is against them in The eighth game of the season it does Feel like just a little something Different Well I'm a fan of Nashville SC in MLS And they did this thing where they were Terrible up until their in season Tournament and then they went on this Like incred and and part of it was that They were playing all these home games Because it was all in Nashville but they Kept winning uh in in this n Season Tournament uh and probably and then Almost beat Messi to win the whole D Thing um so it's not like it's not Unusual for teams to just like flip a
Switch when when things get weird in Season in soccer at least so let's see If that happens in the NBA part of being A sicko is holding on to the Hope Despite all evidence to the contrary so Here I am being the sickest of sickos Thinking that they could make an Improbable run in the n Season Tournament and and I would love if the The coaching staff would take a playoff Approach to this inseason tournament and Not be afraid to make adjustments to win A basketball game and and what I what I Think what I take away from Clifford's Press conference is uh against after the Wizards game is essentially well I don't Think I can win if we go small so the Centers have to learn how to play in Those situations so I have to let them Play through that and which is I guess Is fine in game seven uh but you know When you're in an inseason tournament And you only have five games to qualify You better make some adjustments quick Mid game I hope that Happens all right um I don't know if you Guys can just hear the the pounding the Hammering out side I I don't know if That's Jaylen Duren I thought it was Danilo galinari he wants some more he's Just GNA come in like here's danillo Yeah God that guy had 20 points early in The fourth late in the third I the guy Hadn't played in over a year yeah it it
