Charlotte, North Carolina is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the United States. It is home to nearly 700,000 people. A thriving business and commerce scene, as well as a relaxed atmosphere make it a great place to live and work.
Charlotte is situated in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. This area stretches from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. The region is known for its wide, rolling hills.
Charlotte is home to over 10 Fortune 500 companies, including Lowe’s, American Airlines and Bank of America. It is also home to Duke Energy and Nucor. Some of the nation’s largest snack food companies are located in Charlotte, including Lance Incorporated.
Charlotte is the sixth-largest urban area in the U.S. and is ranked as the second-largest financial center. It has a relatively low unemployment rate.
Charlotte is full of powerful Southern families. Although it is known as the “Queen City,” it is also home to a number of diverse neighborhoods and cultures. Most residents are affiliated with Protestant Christianity.
During the Civil War, Charlotte was a major city in the Confederacy. The last Confederate cabinet meeting was held in the city. Charlotte was also the site of the Navy Yard, which was used to store Confederate war machinery.
In the late 19th century, the city became a leading trade center. Many cotton mills and factories opened in the area. Other industries produced gunpowder and wool goods.
