Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News
The second-largest financial center in the US, Charlotte is a magnet for bankers and other professionals. It’s also a natural draw for college graduates from nearby University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Duke University and Davidson College. Other universities in the area, including Queens University, Central Piedmont Community College and Johnson & Wales University-Charlotte, add to the city’s population of young people.
Summers in Charlotte can be hot and muggy, and the winters are chilly and rainy. But the city has plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the sunshine, from green parks with shady trees and walking paths to cool converted textile mills where you can sample food from several cultures in one place.
Despite its relatively small size, the arts scene in Charlotte is surprisingly vibrant. There are multiple museums, such as the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Charlotte Museum of Contemporary Art, that feature important works from the latest art movements and schools of thought. The city is also home to a number of live music venues and performance spaces, from grand opera houses to intimate jazz clubs.
Charlotte has more than 700 places of worship, representing a broad range of religious faiths and traditions. The majority of the city’s residents are Protestant, but the city is also a stronghold for the Catholic and Jewish communities. Its large number of churches, as well as its numerous cultural and entertainment venues, gives Charlotte a very lively atmosphere.
