The city of Charlotte North Carolina is situated on the coast of eastern North America. Charlotte was founded by English-Irish immigrants over 150 years ago, when they came across the area on the Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia. They named the town after Queen Charlotte, the German-born wife of King George III of England. In 1852, the railroad reached the area. This led to the city’s growth as a trading center. It is still one of the largest cities in North Carolina.
