The largest city in North Carolina boasts plenty of things to do for kids and adults. Take your little ones to learn about nature at Discovery Place Nature Museum, pan for gold at Reed Gold Mine, or check out stingrays and turtles at Sea Life Charlotte-Concord. Adults can get their buzz on while brewery hopping, catch laughs at a comedy show, or channel their inner artist at a paint and sip event.

Sports fans have their pick of professional football, baseball and basketball teams based in the city, as well as minor league hockey and lacrosse. A booming economy, rich history and a vibrant culture make this Southern gem an attractive place to live and work.

Pros of living in Charlotte include its mild climate that still goes through four seasons, the city’s thriving job market and true urban feel, and the abundance of fun activities for families and couples. Cons include hot, muggy summers, traffic-prone streets and sometimes crowded public transit options.

Traditionally a car-centric city, Charlotte is working to expand its public transportation system, with bus stops, streetcars and the LYNX Light Rail all over town. But many residents rely on their cars, especially in the suburbs like Davidson or Belmont, where public transit access isn’t as good.

The best time to visit Charlotte is spring or fall, when daily high temperatures are in the 70s and 80s. These months also have lower humidity than the summertime, making outdoor activities more pleasant.
