Down Here all right I just wanted to start Off by saying uh it's great to be here With you all today and um we are excited About the uh opportunity against the Lions great opponent uh very good run Game uh quarterback is playing at a high Level um it's going to be a very good Matchup on Sunday and we look forward to Going down there and uh being the best Versions of ourselves So jro do you have much uh background Scheming against Ben Johnson yeah so we Uh we played against them in um 2021 When I was at the Rams he was the uh Tight ends coach I believe at the time And uh I think Anthony L was calling the Plays and so but a lot of carryover from That game in terms of what they're doing Fundamentally schematically uh you know Dan is very involved Dan Campbell's very Involved with the offense and so uh we Know what they're going to be about and So should be a good match up how would You describe that offense just in kind Of without getting too too specific well Yeah I would say the biggest thing about Them is that uh they do a good job in Terms of window dressing things there's Going to be a lot of motions shifts Things of that nature um they're really Going to try to distract your eyes Before to snap but the core fundamental Is they're running the ball we know

There's certain runs that they're going To feature um certain R runs that They're going to be good at and um uh They're going to have the play action Pass that's working off of that so That's what we got to be ready to deal With etor had a pretty good Game it Seemed like last week what's been the Biggest difference for him it seems like Just Switch just for for him reason yeah I Just uh think he's been committed since Day one since we've been with him it's Been about uh um his work uh playing on The edge playing inside he knew he was Going to have multiple roles to do that In it do that in and uh he's been Committed to being better and uh I know He's doing it in uh every phase of his Life in the classroom in the weight room On the field obviously and uh I've Just Seen A great commitment from the young Man since day one to be the best version Of himself and uh now he's seen the Fruits of that labor I know you and I Think even Frank said at times at the Beginning it was it kind of looked very Foreign to him in this defense is that In the past now completely and he's Completely com yeah yeah and uh I mean That's not unnatural I he's never played With his hands down or EXC me standing Up he's always played with his hands Down and uh so that's not unnatural at

All for that to happen and uh but where I've been really pleased with him is That he's worked through it um he uh Never got down about it he was upbeat he Was positive um and he knew that if he Worked and prepared that it would Eventually come around and it has we Haven't seen Justin make a real big Impact as of yet is there anything you Can do schematically to to kind of get Him going yeah I think uh he's done a Solid job uh um for us he's been really Good in the Run game and run Opportunities and uh what we need to do As a team um overall as a defense Overall is that we just need to create More pass rush situations and uh I feel Like we've done a good job of rushing The pure um but we just haven't had Enough opportunities to do it and so we Need to get more second and Longs more Third and Longs um I think has the key To us being the defense that we want to Be so we could create those Opportunities to rush the quarterback And uh potentially create a explosive Place For Us following up oner um after Not playing very much in the first game He's continuing to make big plays is he Earning more snaps absolutely absolutely And uh you know he earned those snaps Even before we started playing games to Be honest with you Um he did a great job in training camp

Uh and he was ready to go and as you Know the that the flow of the game in That first game is like we didn't really Play a lot of snaps on defense um and uh Just kind of some of the Personnel Groups that we were working uh didn't Work out that way but the intention was To play him in that first game and uh But I can you can see now that you know The last three games is kind of what we Want to be defensively in terms of that Uh substitution pattern there you guys Have had a lot of different people going Through a lot of different ways of Playing defense third down defense has Been pretty consistent across four weeks Is there a Common Thread there that you Can kind of point to that there's some Degree of pride in at this point yeah I Mean I think uh when you look at it the First thing is that we have a lot of Really good rushers when you can put Derek on the field etor on the field Brian obviously Justin you know Frankie Being activated in some of these deals So we have the ability to get a lot of Pressure when we get people to those Situations and uh we've done a good job In terms of the coverage schemes um uh With Jonathan Co Bert in the back end Really coaching up some of the Zone Coverage that we're doing and uh and so That's always a win in Formula if you Could Rush the quarterback you're going

To have success on third down is it hard To communicate that sorry is it hard to Communicate that when there are so many New people going through the secondary In particular yeah no it is it's a Challenge but uh you know you uh anytime You're in this position and really Anytime you're you're coaching in the NFL you just know that that may be part Of the deal and um you could you got to Coach your twos and threes just as much As coacher ones because at any moment it Can be up what do you think of the what Are you getting out of Justin right now Say that one more time what are you Getting out of Justin Houston right now We're getting what we expected uh great Leadership he's been a solid run player Um and we just need to get more Opportunities to rush the quarterback And we just haven't had enough as a team And so that's what we got to work Towards doesn't let up many sacks at all What are you seeing on tap from their Offensive line that makes him so good Well uh first of all there's a lot lot Of run action and so they're running the Ball they're running the ball and then It's run action to throw the ball with a Lot of protection and so that makes it Difficult um and uh you know they have Good players they have good players and They've done a really good job uh as a Team in all phases of their offense and

So it's going to be a great challenge What have you seen from your run defense The last couple of Weeks uh we need to play better we need To play better um you know I think some Of that could be schematic uh things I Can do better um and then we just got to Play to run better and so um that's The Challenge and uh it's going to be very Evident this week Deshawn Jameson saw His snaps go up obviously because of the Dante injury but he'd only been here for About a month before that came in you Know as a rookie spent the offseason With the 49ers what did he show y'all in That month that gave you kind of the Confidence to play him in that role and What did he show you against the Vikings Yeah he's uh he's very very competitive First of all so from the day he got here Uh in his scout team reps on special Teams he's been competing and uh so you Always want to look for that tra in the Corner if guys are not shy of the moment If they're if they embrace the moment They Embrace competition he definitely Does that uh he's got really good speed He's learning in the game he's going to Continue to get better in terms of uh Just understanding NFL football but uh He's just really competed and that's What I really appreciate about him that Block he laid out against kir cousins You say anything to him oh oh I didn't

Notice till uh the next day on the film But watching him run CU he was in the End zone and he ran about 70 yards Knocked him down and they ran another 30 Yards to get somebody else and so it was It was very impressive yeah already but Any update on JC how close he is to to Getting back no I'm not sure about that How did you miss Jameson's Block in real Time no how far he ran oh yeah yeah yeah Yeah yeah yeah yeah like I figured you Were soaking up that whole yeah yeah no I I didn't realize where he came from And I mean yeah impressive well we saw Him also defensively put a pretty big Hit on somebody is that is that Something you guys saw in him before you You made the yeah definitely um cuz you Know he had played a lot on special Teams uh especially in the preseason and He had really flashed physicality and uh He's a you know he's not a big guy but He's very tough and he's very Willing speaking of that play uh Sam Obviously had the interception but what Else did you see out of him in that game Is there stuff that he still needs to Clean up on yeah uh Sam's continuing to Get better um but what I really Appreciate about him is that he is Working every day it's uh he's one of The first ones in the building he's Watching film he's in a weit room room Um he's really really grown as a a

Professional as a player and it's shown On the film and uh you know like a lot Of our players you know we all got to Just continue to work to get better but Really happy with the progress what's The difference with him on the field Versus Xavier in the Backend uh not much difference um you Know Xavier has more experience um but They're both very good athletes they're Both tough they're both physical they Both could play in a deep part of the Field and uh love both of their skill Sets you know and Sam is going to Continue to grow as a player could Jameson and maybe you already have so I Apologize but could could you envision Him playing inside like you guys get Everybody back Healthy I don't want to divulge too much Of how we're going to utilize him if you Don't Mind but we really like him as a player Though we really do zero um 0 and for Start but the defense has played quite Well three um interceptions three Straight weeks or an interception in Each of the past three weeks weeks how Do you keep the unit positive when uh You know a lot of people think that the Sky might be falling um yeah I'm saying Yeah no no question uh you know it's Really interesting because the lions are Kind of a perfect example last year they

Started one and six and now you see Where their team is and um you know it's Very very easy in this business to be Very shortsighted and um like you said The sky fallen and uh the world is over But the reality is that like we all have To be obsessed with getting better and That's our message to the team and uh Frank has done a great job with it but It's that's what what it is and uh you Know we have to play better on defense Too you know part of 0 and4 is not just The offense it's a lot of it's on us too So we have to play better and uh we have To be obsessed we playing better Coaching better and um that's what we're Dealing with right now and um there's Still a lot in front of us and so um We're excited about what we can do Moving forward what would you say the One or two things that have been holding Yall back on early Downs well Run game for certain so we Got to play The Run game better specific The Run what's been problem with the run Defense uh well you know one we played Um played Atlanta week one very very Good run uh team and uh they did a good Job against us um you know last week uh Minnesota really committed to the Run Game more so they they had done and uh So give them credit but uh we got to Play better as well um and then we got To do a little bit more to get our guys

In better position All good all right thank you Guys
