Organized by Habitat for Humanity and led by honorary hosts Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, the 2023 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project is bringing 27 single-family homes to The Meadows at Plato Price. We’re proud of our city employees who worked alongside hundreds of other volunteers from around the world this week to bring affordable housing to West Charlotte.
Named after the Plato Price School, this West Charlotte area was once a thriving African-American neighborhood. Plato Price School closed in the 1960s when desegregation took hold, and the land lay vacant until the city of Charlotte donated it to Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region in 2019.

Charlotte North Carolina – The Queen City
The Queen City is a hub of business, culture, sports and education, ranked as one of the best cities in the United States to live. Whether you’re interested in the hustle of the city or the slower pace of suburban life, Charlotte has something for everyone!
Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News
During the winter months, Charlotte’s major events include the Belk Bowl and a series of indoor and outdoor track cycling races. The city also hosts the annual Charlotte Motor Speedway race, the Coca-Cola 600, and golf’s Wells Fargo Championship.
In the summer, sports fans will find plenty to do around town. The NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets, call Uptown home, and their stadium is a must-see for any fan. The new Truist Field opened in 2014, and this gorgeous ballpark has quickly become a local hotspot, complete with nightly fireworks and All Knight Long, the team’s official brew made at BirdSong Brewery.
Charlotte also has a wide variety of museums, including Discovery Place Nature for kids and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. The city is also a great place to take in some high-culture, thanks to the Performing Arts Center at Levine and the Charlotte Ballet.
The food scene in Charlotte is also booming, with an abundance of restaurants overflowing with Southern comforts and hip eats. In addition, the city is home to several breweries and wine bars, serving a wide variety of unique drinks. Try out the complex flavors at Olde Mecklenburg Brewery or go for a more casual drink at Heist Brewery, a brewpub that serves dinner and brunch.
