Charlotte is a city in the state of North Carolina. It is the capital of the state’s Charlotte metropolitan area, and is a major wholesale distribution center for the southeastern United States. It is also one of the nation’s largest banking centers. The city is home to a number of educational institutions. In 1771, Queens College was established, and the city’s first college, Thomas Polk, was founded here as well. The college’s name is still associated with the city today. Charlotte’s other educational institutions include a branch of the University of North Carolina (1946), King’s College, and Central Piedmont Community College.
For racing enthusiasts, the city’s NASCAR Hall of Fame is a must-see. This museum has a banked ramp to simulate a racetrack, historic race cars, and racing simulators. The city also hosts the annual NASCAR Sprint All-Star race, which draws spectators from all over the world.
For a taste of history, Charlotte has two museums that are worth seeing. The Charlotte Museum of History has three permanent exhibits and frequently hosts traveling exhibits. For the kids, there is a play area and a children’s museum. For adults, the city is full of cultural and sports venues. Charlotte also has several public parks, including the Charlotte Zoo and Carolina Science Center.
Charlotte is one of the United States’ 25 largest cities and is home to numerous Fortune 1000 companies. It is also the second largest city in southeastern North Carolina. It is home to several household names, including Bank of America, Lowe’s, Wachovia, and the specialty steel company Nucor. Its modern city center is referred to as Uptown, and it features several major museums, a number of shopping and dining options. Uptown celebrates the city’s vibrant “New South” culture while embracing the city’s rich history at attractions such as the Charlotte Museum of History. In addition, Charlotte boasts a number of historic neighborhoods.
