Charlotte, North Carolina, is a city located in the Piedmont region of the state. It is the second largest metropolitan area in the Deep South.
The Charlotte area has a humid subtropical climate. During the winter, the temperatures are warm and comfortable, while during the summer, the temperature can be quite hot. However, it is not as sweltering as the southern states.
Charlotte is home to world-famous evangelist Billy Graham. Charlotte is also home to a number of professional baseball teams, football teams, basketball teams, and NASCAR events.
Charlotte is the second largest banking center in the United States. Top employers in the city include American Airlines, Bank of America, Lowe’s, and Wells Fargo.
In addition to its financial and banking industries, Charlotte is a center for the health and social work fields. A variety of cultural organizations produce arts education programs, produce neighborhood festivals, and produce shows and historical tours.
The Charlotte area is full of vineyards and breweries. Visitors can try beer from NoDa Brewing, Legion Brewing, and Catawba Brewing.
Charlotte was once a major agricultural center. Gold mining stimulated its development. Some of the early settlers named the village after Queen Charlotte of England. She was the wife of King George III.
The Catawba Indian tribe occupied the area until the 1750s. During the war between the Native Americans and the colonial settlers, the Catawba Chief Hagler attempted to make peaceful relations with the white settlers. His efforts resulted in his death by a party of the Shawnee.
