In April, the City of Charlotte named ArtPop as one of 51 local arts and cultural groups in Charlotte-Mecklenburg to receive grant funding through the Infusion Fund. The Infusion Fund is a partnership of the city, Foundation For the Carolinas, and private donors to support Charlotte-area arts and culture with roughly $12 million annually for three years. Charlotte, North Carolina is a mid-sized city complex located near the South Carolina border. It is a thriving city and financial center that has grown from its agricultural and regional banking roots. Today, Charlotte is the home of such businesses as BankAmerica, Wachovia, Lowe’s, and specialty steel maker Nucor. Downtown Charlotte is a mix of modern skyscraper architecture and well-preserved 19th-century neighborhoods.
The city is home to many cultural attractions, including art museums. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art houses nearly a million pieces of art. In addition to permanent collections, it hosts temporary exhibitions. As one of Charlotte’s most prominent cultural attractions, the museum is open daily except for Tuesdays and is free of admission on Sundays. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for non-members.
Charlotte is home to several championship and minor league sports teams. Most NASCAR teams call Charlotte their home. There are also several sports car and open-wheel teams. The city also has a NASCAR Hall of Fame. The historic Charlotte Speedway hosted the first NASCAR Strictly Stock race on June 19, 1949. After the post-race inspection, Jim Roper was declared the winner. Hendrick Motorsports, Richard Petty Motorsports, Roush-Fenway Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Stewart-Haas Racing are some of the best known and best-known names in NASCAR.
The city has something for everyone. Charlotte offers a variety of nightlife activities and attractions. If you’re into theatre and music, the Charlotte Theatre District and Belk Theater are two of the best choices. No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find something to enjoy.
