Matt Corral talks about having a new perspective

Corral discussed participating in OTAs after last season’s injury and playing football in the same area as Bryce Young growing up.

Yeah no I mean reps is a goal you know Especially the position that that I'm in Um you know it was great just to get out There and you know consistently fill out Fill out the Reps and you know get some Get some experience in those uh in those Specific place We talked about a conversation that you Guys had about taking the Long Haul Approach I'm just curious what is this Past year been like for you and how have You been able to I mean you seem to have A positive ass Yeah um yeah like you said it was a it Was a rough year Um a long one at that to say the least Um But you know you got to have perspective And it's all about controlling what you Control and honestly that's what's made Me happy you know getting another Opportunity to be here and play for the Carolina Panthers has is you know I'm Blessed and I'm really happy to be in This position to get another opportunity And Um like I said like he said you know I'm In it for the long haul Um When that opportunity comes I'll be Ready hey Matt it's good to see you Again what was the most challenging Thing I know a lot of stuff that you Went through in that version even up to

Now can you share what's been the most Challenging for you Just uncertainty but you know again you Can't worry about you know uncertainty Okay that kind of falls into The uncontrollable you know and that's Something that You know as a as an athlete specifically You can't you know even as a human being You can't worry about something that's Not in your control you're gonna you're Gonna tear yourself down it's going to Be Um you know you're gonna You're gonna uh mentally implode and you Know something you know the way I Learned in college and leading up till Now it's all about perspective and Keeping that perspective and controlling What you can control as long as you do That you know stay true to the game the Game stay true to you Certainty The question you'd expect but uh how Long how much does your faith matter in Being able to it definitely ties in just To everyday life you know not out not Only into football and I know Questions coming so I'm just going to Say that uh the post on draft night had Nothing to do with football it had zero To do it for one you know me and Rick Had that conversation and like he said It's going to be between us but

Um you know it was a good conversation And Um You know there's stuff I'm still Figuring out outside of football but uh You know it's nothing but positive Things and I'm learning and growing Every single day Follow up what allowed you to find that Perspective that you're now able to Channel Um you know just being able to grow you Know I feel like if I wasn't able to do That I would have been exactly in that Same position Um and it would have hindered my my Growth and not only as an athlete but as A just a human being and you know having Relationships outside of football Um I think every little thing just it Matters everything true my social life Will trickle in my football life my Football Life trickles into my social Life and you know just trying to keep That maintain that balance I think That's what really got me to have a Perspective and Just what you posted on draft night Benefit like I said it was just personal Stuff just my social life and my Relationships with the people you know That care about me and I care about them Had nothing to do with football It's early on but yeah you know I've

Known Bryce since shoot Seventh grade maybe seventh yeah uh he's Always been younger I think he was two Years younger but I mean we'd be in the Same spots same area same camps working Um but yeah and as as we got older I Remember he went to Cathedral I was at Oaks Christian he then transferred to Modern day after that I transferred to Long Beach party but we've always been In the same area worked camps together Growing up and that's kind of just how Our relationship's been and you know It's kind of cool just to see the growth That has came from when we saw each Other or when we first met each other in Seventh grade Be able to learn from two guys that play In the position for a long time it Definitely helps for sure Um You know being guys that have been there And done that uh definitely helps Because you know they show their Mistakes that gives you some sort of Comfort and Um you know it just it just gives you That comfort and that's I feel like That's the biggest thing when you get to This level for sure Matt Corral now and not crowd this time Last year Uh you know That's a good question

Um I would definitely say just my Patience for myself and being able to Have that perspective because I mean It's hard it's hard for me when you know Um you go to college you go to running It you know running the show and then Now it's like you know now there's a bit Of a learning curve you get hurt last Year and you know again uncontrollable And then we get a new we get a new coach New staff new everybody around here and Then it's a new system You know drawing with the punches Controlling what I can control and Um you know staying true to the game you Know as long as you do that the game Will stay true to you and just you know Being a good person in and out of the Building Um that's that that's the gist of it you Know it gets more detail than that but If you live by that that's what's going To get you through and I think I've done A good job at that but you know I cash Myself Um you know you catch yourself in your Head you know you have you have you have Negative thoughts and it's just the more The more you continue you know to not Listen to those thoughts and do more Positive self-talk do more Um you know you you don't you might not Get uh execute the rep right in practice But as long as you get uh learn it watch

The film correct it you know be okay to Live with that and then move on you know Not just keep harping on it that you Missed that simple play and I think That's been the biggest thing for me and You said it was a Deer specifically how tough was that Moment when you realized they were Trading up to number one and Um you know You know it wasn't tough I mean my Competitive nature yeah sure it was like Okay let's go but you know it it's the Business and that's something you know That those guys make and that's Something that you know I got nothing I Got nothing to say about it that's what They want that's what we're going to get And that's what we're gonna do so Um like I said I'm I'm gonna continue to Do my best and continue to make this Team as best as I can to my ability and Um You know just get better every single Day and make the people better around me You know the weeks that follow that have You had any discussions with Scott about Potentially getting trade no me Personally if it was up to me I don't Want to get traded I love the people here I love the people That I'm around you know I want to play For Coach rack uh I really like the Coaches that we have around us

Knew Bryce growing up but Jonathan Mingo Also getting selected what's the Relationship like between the two of you And how has he grown babies You guys have been away uh physically Grown he got a lot bigger since the last Time I saw him he's uh definitely Brought her in the shoulders and uh and The legs but Um you know yeah I remember Mingo when He first came in he was built the same But uh you know great athlete physical Receiver and just a team player you know His first freshman year his freshman Year he didn't get the ball a lot but he Was still a key guy you know he gets Older gets the ball more and then I Leave and then you know he's the number One guy and now he you know he stayed in Line waited his turn and you know he got What he deserved for sure and I'm happy For him and I'm happy that he got to Come here and you know be with me Man in terms of coming back from last Year's injury when did you feel like Okay that's behind me I'm a hundred Percent when I stopped feeling my foot I'd say that was the biggest thing Because there'd be times where Um you know you're six months in or Excuse me like four months in and you're Still you wake up a morning wake up one Morning and you still feel it and it's Just it just feels like it's never going

Away but we're past that and I'm just Like I said I'm the first day that I was In cleats and I went on to the field I Was so happy I was a little kid I felt Like I was a little kid back in peewee's Again And it was just a surreal it was a Grateful moment for sure definitely Sort of actual preseason games Oh there yeah um very important I mean Even before they're still important but Um yeah I feel like it's definitely Definitely uh a time to Showcase what I Can do for sure Golden Corral Yeah yeah it was it's a good little Little gig but uh it definitely starts Fun conversations that's for sure Excuse me anyone stick out to you in Particular during team reps today uh no I mean I feel like the guys have done a Great job of you know doing of executing What's handed to them and it's not like Some guy's surprise surprised me Specifically but as far as the coaches You know they didn't know what they had Coming in here and I know that a few of The guys have surprised them and you Know we're all getting better as as days Go on and I'm definitely excited for the Season for sure Frank said part of the reason they cut Jacob was to make sure you got enough Reps

Um yeah uh you know we have a great Group of dudes in there for sure Um To say that you know in the whole locker Room we got great dudes uh there's not Nobody that's very egotistical in the Locker room Um everybody's helpful to one another And uh from conversations I had with Guys that's not normal and you know I'm I'm glad and grateful that I have I got Put in a situation where I just got good Dudes around me and you know Andy's been A great vet helping us through and Through and me and Bryce and um you know I'm happy I'm happy about that for sure Thank you guys appreciate it thank you Guys
