The Pros and Cons of Living in Charlotte, North Carolina
About Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News
Charlotte’s pro list is long and stacked: a mild climate that still goes through four seasons (and never gets too hot or too cold), a booming job market, and a surplus of things to do for families and single folks alike. Plus, it’s a fast-growing city with a true big-city feel, and its cost of living is lower than that of many other major metros.
But it’s not without its cons: traffic can be a nightmare and the city’s crime rate has risen slightly in recent years, although violent crimes have decreased. Likewise, the city’s public transit system is somewhat lacking; a good portion of residents must own cars to get around.
A burgeoning entertainment scene keeps Charlotte’s pulse quick, with a wide range of local and national sporting events, chart-topping live performances, and colorful city celebrations. The hottest ticket in town is for NBA basketball, but you can also catch a pro hockey game or a NASCAR race if that’s your jam.
Beer lovers can sip their suds in more than 40 breweries, from patios with skyline views to quaint taprooms where you can try a new pour. And even if you’re not a fan of the fermented brown stuff, Charlotte has plenty of wineries and craft distilleries to keep you happy. There are also a variety of coffee shops, tea houses, and kombucha bars to choose from. For a more cultured fix, visit the Levine Center for the Arts or the Charlotte Symphony.
