Charlotte North Carolina – The Queen City

The Queen City, Charlotte, North Carolina is a cosmopolitan, refined city that offers its residents a rich blend of cultural activities, entertainment, and great shopping. Whether you’re looking for an artsy town with great restaurants or a fun place to raise your family, Charlotte has it all.

Located in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte is one of the largest cities in the state. It’s also a growing urban area. In fact, it is among the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. With its large population, Charlotte has plenty of room for everyone.

Charlotte is located in the Piedmont region of the state, which extends from Virginia to Georgia. A ridge of rolling hills separates the Carolinas from the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The railroads arrived in 1852. This was the start of the city’s rise in prominence. During this time, Charlotte was a crossroads for trade in the region. Eventually, Charlotte grew into an industrial center.

Charlotte remained a major cotton producer in the 19th century. But as the textile industry began to die out, other industries came to Charlotte. These included gunpowder and chemicals. Some factories produced agricultural equipment. Others were manufacturers of canteens.

Other notable industries of the day included the Liddell foundry and the Highland Park Manufacturing Company. Philip L. Lance established his peanut butter cracker business in 1913. Another company, Lance Incorporated, is one of the biggest snack food companies in the country.

Other companies that make Charlotte their home include Lowe’s and American Airlines. The Bank of America is also a big player. Several Fortune 500 corporations have offices in the city.
