When it comes to Charlotte, North Carolina, there are a lot of things to like. The city is close to Lake Norman and the mountains, and is filled with sports fans. The Charlotte Hornets, Charlotte Panthers, and Charlotte Knights all have large fan bases. Charlotte is also home to NASCAR races and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The city’s public transportation system is excellent, and you can get around the city easily.

If you’re a foodie, Charlotte offers an enviable variety of great restaurants. You can try a great Mexican or Latin American meal at Cabo Fish Taco or Cantina 1511. Or sample sushi at Pisces Sushi, Mr. Tokyo, or Ru San’s. You’ll also find Italian cuisine in Charlotte, as well as Middle Eastern and Chinese food.

The city was originally settled by European colonists around 1755. The Elizabeth neighborhood is where Thomas Spratt, great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, first built a home there. He chose a spot near a junction where two Indian trading paths crossed. This allowed for trade to take place naturally.

Charlotte was also a hub of the American Civil War, as the final Confederate cabinet meeting was held here. In the 1950s and 1960s, the city was a center for civil rights activity. Modernization efforts and integration efforts also helped Charlotte grow. It is the 16th-largest city in the U.S. and is one of the most prosperous cities.
