From fiery sports battles to chart-topping entertainers and colorful city celebrations, Charlotte has it all. The Queen City’s high-profile sporting events attract millions of visitors each year and generate millions in revenue for the state.
The NBA’s Charlotte Hornets and MLS’ Charlotte FC call the city home. In addition to a handful of minor league baseball teams, the state is also home to several golf teams that compete at a variety of levels including the top-tier PGA Tour.
The Queen City also hosts a few different equestrian events, including the annual Queen’s Cup steeplechase that takes place at Brooklandwood in Mineral County. This popular event raises money for local charities while also providing spectators with an exciting afternoon of riveting horse races with intoxicating views.
Football fans can catch the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium and basketball fans can root on the Charlotte Bobcats or WNBA’s Charlotte Storm at the Spectrum Center. After a brief stint as an Arena Football League team called the Charlotte Rage in 1992, professional football returned to the city in 2013 when the Bobcats took on their former name of the Charlotte Hornets.
Motorsports enthusiasts can find plenty to do at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Auto Show, where new vehicles are displayed and a hero day offers first responders, teachers, veterans, military personnel, and medical workers free admission. In addition, Charlotte’s many parks play host to a variety of community festivals and concerts throughout the year, many featuring popular artists from various genres.
