Charlotte North Carolina – Fun Things to Do

Charlotte North Carolina is a historic city located in south-central North Carolina, east of the Catawba River. The city was founded in 1750 and named after Princess Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the queen of King George III. It was the site of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, signed in May 1775. The city became the center of gold production in the country until 1849. The city had a mint in the 18th century.

Charlotte is known for its affordable cost of living. Over 40% of Charlotte’s residents have moved from another state to live here. Real estate costs are below the national average. The city’s housing market is affordable, and many homes offer higher square footage, better commutes, and improved quality of life. For those looking for a new home, Charlotte has many great options to choose from.

Charlotte is home to a variety of outdoor activities and family-friendly festivals. The fall season brings great weather and plenty of sunshine. There are plenty of pumpkins and apples to pick, plus plenty of family-friendly events. And while the fall season is short, you can’t miss the Carolina Renaissance Festival, which opens October 5, 2013, and continues through November 24th. The festival features arts and crafts, live entertainment, medieval games, and delicious food.

Another popular attraction is the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, which houses nearly one million works by famous artists such as Jasper Johns. The museum hosts many temporary exhibitions and is open every day but Tuesday. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and closed on Tuesdays. On Sundays, the museum is open from noon to 5 p.m.
