Charlotte, North Carolina – The Queen City

The city of Charlotte is the largest in North Carolina. Founded 150 years ago, it is named after Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of British King George III. Charlotte has a vibrant sports and entertainment scene, with teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Known as Queen City, the city has even had its streets paved in gold!

Charlotte has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. It receives a good amount of rainfall throughout the year. Due to its location along the Gulf of Mexico, Charlotte receives abundant subtropical moisture. In addition, rainy weather can occur during specific times of the year, making outdoor activities more challenging. In addition, ice storms can be dangerous in certain areas of the city. For those who are worried about the weather, the city offers world-class healthcare. There are two premier healthcare systems in Charlotte.

Besides the Charlotte Motor Speedway, the city has many cultural and recreational attractions. There are museums and cultural centers throughout Charlotte, including the Billy Graham Library in Uptown. In addition, a museum dedicated to Charlotte’s mining history is located nearby at the Wells Fargo Museum. Visitors can view gold nuggets, rare coins, and a Concord stagecoach.
