If you’re visiting Charlotte, North Carolina, you’ll want to make time to attend some of the city’s great festivals. Festivals in the area feature a variety of entertainment, including live music, local cuisine, and art exhibits. Some events include Festival in the Park, held in the fall at Freedom Park, or the Kings Drive Art Walk, which features work by local artists. The area that is now Charlotte was first settled by European colonists around 1755. Thomas Spratt settled in the Elizabeth neighborhood, and Thomas Polk, the great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, built his house near the intersection of two Native American trading paths. One of these trails ran north-south along the Great Wagon Road, while the other ran east-west along Trade Street.

The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden is another place to spend time in Charlotte. The gardens span 360 acres and feature a woodland trail, sparkling fountains, and an Orchid Conservatory. The garden is listed in the top 20 Great Gardens in the United States, and is a top destination in the fall. In addition to its beautiful gardens, Charlotte also has several museums.
