Meet Natali Betancur. Originally from Santa Rosa de Cabal, Colombia, Natali came to the United States when she was 9 years old. Adjusting to life in America had its challenges, but luckily for Natali, she learned the power of perseverance from her mother. She’s since made a home for herself here in Charlotte and has become a vocal advocate for our Latin American community.
Do you remember what life was like Growing up in Colombia my family's very Close-knited and so my great Grandmother's house it was kind of like The center of attention everybody would Bring guitars we would gather and eat And my grandmother would always be in The back making what we call arepas how Old were you when you left Columbia for The United States I was about nine years Old this is back in 1997 and so I was Dropped in a classroom and it was English and I knew no English for the First few months it was very hard my mom Started working at Burger King cleaning Hotel rooms and she she was able to Train herself went through everything She had to do to become a certified Nurse assistant through it all it was Perseverance I myself had three jobs and Was going to school at night and had a Daughter to take care and it was that Perseverance and and getting that from My mother that really took me all the Way through
