A popular city in North Carolina, Charlotte is a great destination for families with plenty of activities and attractions. Families can enjoy the outdoors by hiking, biking and kayaking in the city’s numerous parks and trails, or take part in a number of festivals, such as the Taste of Charlotte, which runs over the course of three days each spring. Other top events include the Circle K Speed Street, which features NASCAR racing with food and entertainment, as well as a trip to nearby Carowinds amusement park.

In the fall, Charlotte is home to the popular Carolina Renaissance Festival, which operates on Saturdays and Sundays through November 19. Visitors can relish in reenactments, jousting tournaments and traditional Renaissance entertainment while waving at valiant knits, friendly fairies and fire-breathing dragons. The Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden hosts Holidays at the Garden each November through December, a beautiful outdoor event that’s illuminated with more than a million lights and accompanied by music and other festive activities.

Those with an interest in cars can visit the Auto Show, a popular annual event that showcases new models from major automobile manufacturers. The Charlotte Auto Show also offers Hero Day, where first responders, active military personnel, teachers and medical workers are admitted free of charge.

The annual South End Wine & Hops Fest is another popular beer- and wine-related festival. Attendees can sample the brews from dozens of local and regional breweries and wineries while enjoying live entertainment and appetizers.
