The city’s many outdoor activities are popular, especially when the weather is mild. You can find miles of greenways for hiking and jogging, the Catawba River for water sports, and plenty of mountain scenery within a short drive.

For a change of scene, Charlotte has more than 40 craft breweries to sample local brews. From patios with skyline views to quaint taprooms, there’s something for every beer lover. And if you’re not into beer, Charlotte also has more than a few non-alcoholic options such as kombucha and cider.

You don’t have to be a NASCAR fanatic to live in Charlotte, but that’s probably what most people are moving here for. The town has a deep connection with the sport, having hosted the first-ever professional stock car race in 1949, and it’s still home to the first-ever NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The weather here is generally warm and dry, but the peak summer months can be hot and muggy. That’s why you’ll want to plan a menu of fun things to do that aren’t dependent on the sun, including live music and museums such as the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.

The city’s schools are top-ranked and offer a wide range of primary and secondary education options from traditional neighborhood schools to charter schools. In-state tuition is low for college students. The area’s many universities, including Johnson & Wales University and Central Piedmont Community College, are located in the Uptown district.
