Power Down the Crown is a voluntary building energy performance benchmarking program to help Charlotte building owners track and reduce energy usage. The program goal is to reduce energy use per square foot by 10% by 2030.

We take old compressors and old Motors And we recycle those parts and build Them into new ones that saves a great Deal of energy because we don't have to Spend a lot of resources on remaking Those parts where we use them look at How big this housing is if you have to Manufacture a new housing this big it's Going to take a lot of energy [Music] In 2022 alone we have remanufactured Thousands of compressors and Motors Reusing close to 2 million pounds of Material including steel aluminum copper And brass [Music] [Music] A lot of our disciplines here what we Teach are are linked to sustainability So if we're going to be trying to teach This we have to be able to show that the University also operates in a Sustainable way [Music] In some ways that's the next stage for UNC Charlotte is to take these buildings That were built over the last half Century and modernize them so some of This comes in design if you look at the Buildings we've built that are the Highest Sort of sustainability standards they Have shapes and they are oriented to the Sun in such a way that we're using

Natural light to get into them and and Yes our greenest building on campus the Epic Elite Gold building is capable of Actually we have a almost like a big Light channel in the middle to bring Light into the middle of the building We're pretty proud of partnering with City of Charlotte on this initiative Because that kind of correlates with Exactly what we do as train Technologies Those goals are bold and and they also Incorporate all of us so in some ways The city is I believe helping us see That we should also have bold goals to Be able to match them Thank you
