Things to Do in Charlotte, North Carolina
Charlotte has a moderate climate, but the city still has four distinct seasons, including fall. In the fall, the foliage is particularly beautiful. Winters are usually mild, with snowfall only once or twice a year. However, when the temperature does dip, the mountains of Charlotte often have fresh white powder to ski on. In the summer, Charlotte can be hot, but not as hot as in some southern states.
There are many transportation options in Charlotte, including a light rail system and bus system. However, the light rail does not offer service to the airport. In addition, you will have to put up with some of the city’s environmental issues. You should also plan ahead for taxes, as income tax in the city is relatively low, ranging from four to five percent of your income.
For entertainment, Charlotte is home to many great performing arts venues. The Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts and the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Performing Arts Center are two popular venues. These venues play host to the Charlotte Symphony and Opera Carolina. In 2018, the area also hosted the world premiere of Hamilton, which was performed at the Belk Theater.
The area that is now Charlotte was first settled by European colonists around 1755. Thomas Spratt settled near the Elizabeth neighborhood, and Thomas Polk, the great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, built a house there at the intersection of two Native American trading paths. One path ran north-south along the Great Wagon Road, while the other ran east-west along Trade Street.
