Charlotte, North Carolina – Home to Major League Soccer

The area that is now Charlotte, North Carolina, was originally settled by European colonists around 1755. Thomas Spratt, a Scots-Irish Presbyterian, settled near the Elizabeth neighborhood. Another prominent settlers was Thomas Polk, great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, who built a home near the intersection of two Native American trading paths. One trail ran north-south along Great Wagon Road and the other followed the east-west route of Trade Street.

Charlotte is known for its mild climate. The average temperature in January is about 30 degrees Fahrenheit and it can get as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer. Unlike other parts of the country, the climate in Charlotte is relatively dry, which is perfect for outdoor activities. The city also has outdoor pools and concerts, which are very popular during the summer months. Aside from enjoying the great outdoors, residents should also remember to apply sunscreen.

Charlotte is also home to a number of professional sports teams. Major league soccer is coming to Charlotte, and the team is scheduled to start play in 2022 at the Bank of America Stadium. The team is owned by David Tepper, who won the expansion franchise on December 17, 2019. In addition to Major League Soccer, Charlotte has a number of minor league and professional sports teams.
