Charlotte North Carolina – Fun Things to Do

Events, Life, Sports, Weather, News

From the cosmopolitan bars and restaurants of Uptown to the family-friendly neighborhoods in the suburbs, Charlotte is one of the fastest growing cities in the country. Many young professionals are drawn here by the fast-growing job market, low cost of living (especially relative to other metros in the South), and a surplus of fun things to do for both singles and families alike.

In addition to a burgeoning music scene, the city is home to NBA and NFL franchises for the Carolina Panthers and the Charlotte Hornets as well as the BB&T Knights of minor league hockey and football. The area also has a wealth of local, regional, and national museums as well as an extensive collection of art at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art.

The city has a great selection of parks and outdoor recreational areas with miles of hiking trails, bike paths, jogging tracks, and whitewater rafting opportunities. The city is also within a short drive of both the beach and the mountains.

The climate is typically warm and humid in the summer and mild and dry in the winter. The wet season lasts 3.5 months from May through August with an average of 13.1 days with precipitation. During the summer, a high humidity level can make it feel hot and muggy even in moderate temperatures. Charlotte is served by the Charlotte Area Transit System which operates 70 local and regional fixed routes as well as a light rail system.
