Charlotte Mecklenburg’s most recent crime numbers report, released in October of 2022, showed an increase in property crimes.
Charlotte’s Uptown area saw those types of crimes in December. This included car thefts, which Jane Monreal digs into in this report:
October Auto thefts increased 17 percent That's compared to the year before and We're hearing of some pretty bold cases Too WCNC Charlotte's Jane monreal live In uptown Jane you actually spoke to a Woman who had her car stolen right Outside the jail Unbelievable yeah I talked to this woman Who works as a bail bond agent and she Says she parked a car right in front of The jail in that bus lane like she Usually does and she was doing that a Post bond for a client well just like That she said her car was gone The crime up here surprisingly is kind Of bad Naima Cropper works the night Shift for U.S Bonding Company when I Came back outside my car was gone so I Kind of looked around and I was like Something's not right even though the Office is located just behind the jail She drives to post bail the back door of The jail here that we used to go in they Locked it since clothing they won't Unlock the door it's not safe for us to Walk around the corner around 11 on the Night of December 30th she drove her car To the front of the jail I know that I Locked the doors when I got out the car Because I heard the alarm beep after Realizing her car was gone she said she Was filing a police report when they Radioed him and said yeah we just Checked the footage her car was stolen
From in front of the Mecklenburg County Jail a guy with bright yellow pants got Out of jail walked to my car got in it And drove off I mean that's the Stupidest thing I've ever heard like Honestly I've never seen a dumber Criminal who gets out of jail after Making bonds for stealing a car and then Steals another car right in front of the Jail Kind of crazy right well according to Cmpd arrest warrants are issued now for Anthony Goddard he has a history of Stealing cars with other driving related Charges also Cropper says that the Bonding company they hope that the back Door to the jail will be unlocked again Until then she says she's going to drive Her personal car not drive her personal Car rather the company car to the front Of the jail from now on live in uptown Jane monreal WCNC Charlotte all sorts of Irony in that story all right Gene thank You
