Whether you enjoy watching high-profile sporting events or simply enjoying some quality time with your family at a local festival, Charlotte has something for everyone. The city also hosts a variety of restaurants that will satisfy every palate, with a multitude of unique and authentic cuisines to choose from.
The modern city center, or Uptown, is home to the Levine Museum of the New South that explores post–Civil War history, the Discovery Place, which has hands-on science displays and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, for fans of racing. Charlotte also offers an extensive selection of museums and galleries, as well as a variety of theaters.
If you love shopping, Charlotte has everything from traditional malls to unique boutiques and markets like the 7th Street Public Market where you can find everything from fresh ingredients to artisanal bread. If you’re an avid golfer, there are plenty of golf clubs and courses in the area, including the Quail Hollow Country Club where the Wachovia Championship is held annually.
Several top-notch healthcare companies have headquarters in Charlotte, with the nationally recognized Novant Health and Carolinas Medical Center among them. The city is also home to excellent schools at all levels, from pre-school to university. However, residents must be aware that the mild but muggy summers bring mosquitoes, so you might want to stock up on bug spray. Also, the soil is clay-based, so gardening can be challenging unless you have great drainage.
