You help us make sense of what this Trade means for the Hornets well I think On its face you've got a team in Oklahoma city that has just a massive Amount of draft assets and and they have To they have to manage those assets a Lot like a bank manages assets you move Stuff around sometimes but but for NBA Teams you can't draft every you these Teams somehow some of them have like Seven second round picks four first Round picks you can't draft all of those Players and bring them into your system Because you have to pay those players And then you got to find places for them They're not getting NBA minutes because OKC they already have a stacked roster So they're you know they have to look Ahead and say all right how can we move Some of these extend some of these so You exchange a 29 for a 30 and you you Just put that one out a little bit and For the Hornets what they get out of it Is they get I think what will be a Better second round pick because Phoenix I mean they're shopping Kevin Durant Right now they can't get rid of Bradley Beal is the hopes for them to be Perennial playoff contenders uh they're Not very good right now so that could be A better second round pick than maybe a Nuggets pick would be so that's on its Face but I think if you're confused as To why they would just swap second round

Hornets aren't the worst team in Basketball I'm like look if you wanted To make that argument fine in the Standings okay okay how we measure this Sort of thing the Hornets are ahead of Washington except for in the Head-to-head so looking at Stats they're Now 0 and3 this year against Washington They're three- seven their last 10 games Against the Wizards it's crazy every Game they've played the last two years They are two and five in their last Seven games that they've played the last Two years which ultimately comes down to My favorite and again I mean most Painful stat is that the Hornets are Responsible for 22% of Washington's total Wins the last two years the hits are Responsible for 22% of the Wizards total Wins the last two seasons it is Remarkable and again by remarkable that Is another code word for Painful uh yeah so it's 38% of the wins This season 22% of the wins over the Past two seasons um it's insane and I Think we could say too maybe part of the Reason for the second round pick swap is Just a distraction just a Wag the Dog Situation he calls up press he says Sam You got to help me out we just lost a Third straight game to the Washington Wizards just like go into your closet Deep into the closet where you haven't

Jonas and Mark Williams on balal Kabali that was his decision think about That he's hiding Mark Williams on Defense he's hiding him like that's Insane and it didn't work because then The entire Hornets defense was focused On making up for that and so that's what Resulted in the kickouts to kissper um You had great job by nsj of just like Completely shadowing Jordan p and not Letting him get anything but that led to Open shots as well and then by the time That and well and cool got a few threes On Mark Williams too but by the time They finally abandoned that as soon as They abandoned it Washington Went and put yonas valent tudas One-on-one with Mark and dominated him There in the first half there was zero Effort Zero Energy Zero physicality zero Intensity from your starting center who Is supposed to be your defensive core Your defensive identity he's a defensive Center it's insane Um so the the things about Terence ogles Be going in people loved it right they They loved hearing teren Oglesby go in On Mark Williams I get it you mentioned It too I do think teams in in this is The qualifier before my other Mark takes Teams will put a shot blocking RoR off Of their big guy without necessarily Hiding them I know that he's been out Battled physically in a lot of these
Matchups but this is something that has Happened with Boston this is something That happened with Milwaukee when Charles Lee was on both of those staffs They would take some shot blockers and It's not like they were hiding them but They wanted them to roam which is Something Mark Williams said that he was Going to do at the beginning of this Season that they he was going to be more Of a shot blocker and then roam around The problem is I'm not telling you he Did that well I'm saying I don't know no I'm not but I'm saying I don't know if He was hiding Mark I think that was a Defensive strategy and that it wasn't Hiding him the Bel I disagree I think he Knew that if he went with him on because Because Jonas did that to Mark in the Previous matchup he dominated Mark in The previous matchup and I think they Went all right this is going to be our Best shot here to try this and that Didn't work either Fair Bal kabali comes In as a 27% three-point shooter 28 so when you Are worried about Mark Williams not Getting out on Shooters specific Speically bow kabali I would argue that They're baiting kabali into shooting That it would be much more beneficial For this defense to have Mark your Seven-footer closer to the paint and Then show at kabali with a hand in his
Face even if it is just 10 feet away Show a hand in his face and let him Shoot because that's a shot you're going To take almost every time down the floor He had shooting problems coming into This season kabali now at 28% but he Just shot four of eight last night so You lost that battle like you bet on Something that usually happens and this Is what has always happened to the Hornets the guy gets hot from three that Hasn't made many threes coming into this Year but you gave him open looks so that Was a coaching strategy that was Mark Williams fading more towards the paint And cheating down there and kabali made You play or made you pay for it now my Other thing about Mark is this Doug this Is this is my take on Mark man I watched A lot of his Highlights last night after the game Going back to last year going back to His rookie year some of the games that He was healthy enough to have played I'm Telling you mark looks like a different Player right now and the way that he Looks different is that he is not nearly To me as athletic he is not responding Quick enough I have seen too many times In team defensive sets where he's late Getting over to block some of these Shots that was not happening he had so Many athletic finishes at The Rim Where Now he'll come up with a dunk but it's
Because he's still somewhat athletic He's not a complete plotter he's not big Ow you know but what happens is he goes Up and then gets it at the top there's Not a whole lot of Wiggle to his game Anymore so what's happened is a perfect Storm what's happened is he's had a back Injury he had a foot injury they put Weight on him he hasn't had enough of an Off season to play a new style and play With new Strength because he missed so Much time so with all of that going into The equation of what you want Mark to be You lose the athletic skill set The Confident skill set that Mark had we've Never had Mark effort issues right that That's not something we ever came in you Cannot find a podcast that finds Mark Williams having effort issue physicality Issues for sure physicality coming with Just just not being strong enough we've Seen that we've had those conversations But effort issues no we haven't talked About that I look I hate it I hope that They didn't mess him up by putting too Much weight on him and the injuries also Went into that but Doug like I I'm a Little worried about the lack of Athleticism there he can still show you In the second half he responded like the Second half wasn't nearly as bad as the First but the first halves they're Killers they really are it it hurts you As much as I love them man there there's
No doubt the first half is a killer Well it might not be that they messed Him up it might just be that the the Sort of coming together of the he had to Put weight on like there was just like He wasn't going to be a starting level Center without putting a little bit of Weight on but I think the the coming Together of the back injury the foot Injury and that at the same time is it Is showing up and I I don't even think There there are some moments that I saw And I wrote this in the every Hornets Box score right up that I don't think Would even show up on a highlight reel Because it was in the transition between Offense to defense defense to offense Before a play gets set and watching him Labor as he tries to just change Directions as everybody else flies up The floor and I don't know if it's the Foot or the back or the fitness or what But you're you're totally right he does Not look like the same player and I Think what's interesting too is That before the Nuggets game he missed Two straight games with left foot injury Management and then he comes back off of That and has a really good game against The Nuggets I thought he was like active Physical all the effort was there Against joic he was doing the right Things and then plays two consecutive Games and what happens it wasn't a back

Does exist I'm glad that we have not had Any injury setbacks rather than just the Management that's a good sign so I'm Hoping that continues through the rest Of this season he gets a complete Healthy off season to work on his game Work on conditioning and then comes into His fourth NBA year ready to rock and Roll I think there we see that actually Quite a bit of times right people can Bounce back from this so that's where we Can have the future debate stuff but as To what's happened so far Doug what I am A little worried about is on top of the Injuries that they might have put too Much weight on them and they've taken Away some of that athleticism because I Do value what mark would bring on the Perimeter short of the Caleb love shot That every Carolina fan will show you in The 2022 final four I totally get it but Man Mark was active out there on the Three-point line a couple of years ago He would eat people up it we can Remember scared to go out I I feel like He's scared to go out there now because He's gonna get beat cuz because now he Can't move his feet nearly as well he Just can't I mean there's a play last Night what here's one thing so kabali I Think I think it was Kabali the game plan I think had been to Let him shoot threes because he's a Terrible three-point shooter I I saw
Some Wizards account last night also say Teams are just going to let him shoot That's the game plan on The Whiz you Just let kabali shoot so what happened Though is this time Mark had a poor Close out he lunges at kabali and then He drives right by him where that wasn't Necessarily a mark what are you going to Do smaller athletic guard at just good Luck tip of the cap it was a bad close Out he lunged at him and kabali drove Right by him and then slammed it home That was the Dunk play that was the Awesome play and he got got some of his Guys in trouble but I'm with you like The the perimeter defense that that's Something that I don't think is there Anymore they've made him like what I Think what's happened is they're trying To bring a lot of size they're trying to Make him more of that drop coverage even If we've talked about him being a RoR it It almost feels like they need to figure Out a lane for him um and I just I just I watch those highlights man it sucks Cuz yeah I I know he'd get pushed around That that's true but to combat that Mark Would have athletic finishes at the rim And I think when you lose that much Weight and you're still athletic you can Go in like strength and weight is not All the same all the time like you can Be strong and not weigh as much when You're just going at somebody with 100%

For that more so especially with these Baseline Cuts early on and then he was Out for 150 games seemingly but I Actually kind of celebrated that part of Cody's game to me Doug I I can answer This pretty simply it's how much do you Value shooting uh green is a more Consistent Shooter you're probably right on that I Would say though that we've seen Something from Cody Martin that we Haven't had the opportunity to see if It's in in Josh Green's game and that's Like we've seen a couple of Cody Martin Takeover games like 20 plus scoring Efforts where like they've been so Injured that they needed Cody Martin to Run some of the offense and run some of The offense through Cody Martin and he Was able to step up in a few of those Moments he has some versatility in his Offensive game that I'm not sure exists In Josh Green's game but they both are Very similar and that they are guys that Are willing to go and guard the best Wing on the opposing team and sacrifice Some of what they do offensively and I Would say that if you compare the two And again I I don't have any analytics On this but just watch this season I Would say Josh green has probably been The guy who's come up with more Turnovers and and more deflections than Cody Maron has this season and obviously
