Charlotte North Carolina Attractions and Events

If you are a fan of fine arts, Charlotte has a number of great art museums and cultural events to choose from. The Charlotte Performing Arts Center and the Belk Theater are two of the area’s most popular attractions, and both offer a variety of events. Performances at these locations include the Charlotte Symphony, Opera Carolina, and the Charlotte Ballet. In 2018, the city hosted Hamilton, one of Broadway’s best shows.

The area that is now Charlotte was first settled by Europeans around 1755. Thomas Spratt, a great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk, built a house near the intersection of two Native American trading paths, one of which ran north-south along Great Wagon Road and another, which ran east-west along Trade Street.

The city’s African-American community has an extensive history. Most of the African-American population is affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, the largest predominantly African-American denomination in the country. There are also many African-American Methodists, and several Pentecostal organizations. Residents of Charlotte also have an appreciation for college sports. They support the Carolina State Wolfpack and Clemson University Tigers.

Charlotte is also an excellent choice for people looking for warm-weather climates. The average temperature in Charlotte is 42 degrees during the winter and 79 degrees during the summer. The colder months bring more rain than snow. However, Charlotte can get a little muggy during the fall and winter months.
