As a part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, city employees joined hundreds of volunteers to help build several of the 39 homes planned for The Meadows at Plato Place. Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood hosted the event Oct. 1-6.
Charlotte City Council voted to donate the land to Habitat for Humanity in 2018. The city has also provided $1.2 million in funding and will offer down payment assistance to the homebuyers through the House Charlotte program.
