Charlotte North Carolina – History, Sports, Weather, and More

The area that is now Charlotte was first settled by European colonists in 1755. Thomas Spratt and his family lived in the Elizabeth neighborhood. A few years later, Thomas Polk (great-uncle of U.S. President James K. Polk) settled in Charlotte and built a house near the intersection of two Native American trading routes. One traveled north-south along the Great Wagon Road, while the other traveled east-west along Trade Street.

Charlotte is home to a diverse sports scene. In addition to the Charlotte Hornets, there are several other professional teams. The Charlotte Checkers play in the American Hockey League, and the Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The city also hosts USL2 teams such as the Charlotte Independence and the Charlotte Thunder.

Charlotte is a city rich in history. The area was the site of the first gold rush in America, and the federal government opened a branch of the US Mint in Charlotte. You can visit the Mint Museum in the city’s historic Mint Building. In addition, Charlotte was home to many gold mines. Some say the streets were even paved with gold. This historic city has also been featured in television series such as Homeland and has twice been selected to host the presidential nominating conventions.

The climate in Charlotte is very mild, with temperatures ranging from 42 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit. During the winter months, it seldom snows. Because of its mild climate, Charlotte is a great choice for people who like warm weather. However, be aware that Charlotte can get hot during the summer and muggy in the fall. If you plan to visit Charlotte, be sure to bring along plenty of sunscreen.
